Needless to say, many of her Instagram followers said this is their favorite cake.

Another fan shared, “I’ve never been able to duplicate my grandma’s chocolate cake recipe… until I found this recipe! We’ve renamed your recipe ‘grandma’s chocolate cake.’”

The ‘Barefoot Contessa’ star shared the origins of her cake recipe
Garten’s chocolate cake recipe wasn’t developed by her, she explained during an episode of Barefoot Contessa.
The Food Network host was making the cake for her friend Michael Grimm’s anniversary party and explained how the recipe the came from Grimm’s grandmother.
“The pressure’s on,” she said. “It has to be good because Michael knows exactly what it is. He actually served this cake to me once at dinner and I just begged him for the recipe.”
She added, “I didn’t have to beg very hard.”
How to make Ina Garten’s Beatty’s chocolate cake recipe
Garten’s cake is easy enough to make, beginning with sifting flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a mixer bowl. Then she slowly added a combination of wet ingredients — buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla.
“And then, I have a secret ingredient,” Garten noted on her show. “Or I should say Michael’s grandmother had a secret ingredient.” She added a cup of hot brewed coffee to the mixer.
“And I always think coffee is really important for chocolate,” she said. “It makes it taste really chocolatey — and that’s exactly what this does.”
Garten poured the batter into two 8-inch cake pans and baked them in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
She frosted the cake with a decadent buttercream frosting that also included coffee to enhance the chocolate flavor.
