‘Insecure’: Jay Ellis Did a TikTok Challenge With His Cast but the Results Have Us Saying ‘Condolences’
The Insecure cast might be gearing up to take their final bow after Season 5, but that doesn’t mean that they’re not having some fun along the way. The show has become a comedic staple since it premiered back in October of 2016. Furthermore, it has made Issa Rae a household name. Now, the cast is in the process of filming its fifth and final season, but fans aren’t quite ready to say goodbye.
‘Insecure’ is ending with Season 5
“Prentice [Penny] and I are so grateful that HBO believed in our show from the beginning and kept faith in us to see our vision through the end,” Issa Rae shared with Deadline about the decision to end Insecure with Season 5. “We always planned to tell this story through five seasons, but we couldn’t have made it this far without the tremendous support of our audience. I feel blessed beyond measure to bring our characters’ stories to an end, on-screen at least.”
The cast of the beloved HBO show have developed strong bonds
While the Insecure cast has certainly bonded with their characters, they have also bonded with each other. After spending the last six years together, most of the actors have developed very close relationships with one another and enjoy spending time together outside of work. Behind-the-scenes footage over the years has shown that the actors have a playful camaraderie with one another. In fact, Jay Ellis recently tried to do a TikTok challenge with his fellow castmates.
For the past week or so, the Internet has been inundated with the “I’m Busy Right Now” challenge. The challenge consists of FaceTiming a series of contacts on your phone and when they answer telling them “I’m busy right now” before trying to get them off the phone and recording their responses. A few celebrities have joined in on the challenge and Ellis decided to do it with his Insecure castmates.

Ellis started off by calling Issa Rae, but when she didn’t answer he moved on to Yvonne Orji. When Orji declined the call, he moved on to Natasha Rothwell who also didn’t pick up his call. Finally, he tried Neil Brown Jr. who also didn’t answer. Ellis declared that everyone may have been on the set of Insecure except for him before calling Rae back and finally getting an answer.
But Ellis’s call with Rae didn’t seem to go how he planned. After telling her he was busy, the writer responded “Don’t do this,” before bursting out laughing. Apparently, Rae had already seen the challenge online and wasn’t falling for Ellis’s antics. Knowing his cover was blown, he laughed alongside Rae and shared that he’d tried calling plenty of his castmates and nobody picked up.
Issa Rae wasn’t fooled by Ellis’s prank
“I guess I ain’t that busy after all 💀…the way she laughed at me tho! #imbusyrightnow #InsecureHBO,” Ellis captioned the hilarious video which he posted to Instagram. “When u call me tho 😂😂😂😂. Also: u have way too much time on your hands,” Orji commented on the post.
Of course, fans of Insecure got a kick out of the video as well. In fact, some people went as far as to wish Ellis “condolences” on his failed prank. This, of course, is a nod to his love interest, Condola, who popped up on the latest season of Insecure. Many fans aren’t fond of Condola and thus make up hilarious alternatives to her name including calling her Condolences. It’s great to see that the Insecure cast is able to produce great art while having fun with each other. We can’t wait to see what they have planned for Season 5.
