‘Insecure’: Keke Palmer Asked Issa Rae If She Could Play This Role on the Show
A lot of insane things have happened in 2020. However, one of the positive things that have occurred this year is the return of the HBO dramedy, Insecure. Created by Issa Rae, the series follows best friends Issa Dee (Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji) as they navigate life, love, careers, and friendships in LA.
After a lengthy hiatus, Insecure returned with a punch. This past season we watched Issa and Molly’s relationship continually fracture until it cracked into a massive heap. Molly finally appeared to find love with Andrew and Issa seemed to find her footing when it came to her professional aspirations.
However, a ton of things were left up in the air that needs to be addressed for Season 5. Now, actor Keke Palmer is asking Issa Rae for a pivotal role on the next season
This is what we know about ‘Insecure’ Season 5
Amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Hollywood had halted filming and production on their projects. Though filming has begun to slow rev up, extreme caution is still being taken.
Though Insecure has been renewed for Season 5, it won’t debut on TV anytime soon. At present, the writers’ room is working together via Zoom. Showrunner Prentice Penny told The Hollywood Reporter,
Yeah, everything changes day by day, week by week. We were supposed to shoot this year — and, like everyone, we got pushed to 2021. We have a lot of contingency plans for 2021, in terms of when we get to start, but we’re not steering the ship on that. Two months ago we were OK in Los Angeles and it was New York that was in the toilet. All we can control is the writing right now, so that’s what we’re focused on.
Season 4 of ‘Insecure’ ended with a ton of loose ends
Season 4 of Insecure did not end the way that we expected. Issa and Molly went their separate ways, before seemingly trying to talk it out. Issa and Lawrence (Jay Ellis) appeared to reconnect despite Lawrence’s impending move to San Fransico.
However, that all changed when Lawrence’s ex-flame Condola (Christina Elmore) reveals that she’s pregnant with Lawrence’s child. Molly is also forced to confront her behavior after a major fall-out with Issa and the imploding of her relationship with Andrew.
Now, Keke Palmer wants the opportunity to take on a role in Season 5.
Keke Palmer asked Issa Rae to play this role on ‘Insecure’
Palmer, a veteran actress, has reached out to Rae for a very specific role on the HBO series. She tweeted,
Hey @IssaRae there’s been a mix-up. I posted about my excitement for season 5 of Insecure and now everyone thinks I’m gonna be on it. We can’t let them down, put me in to beat Condola’s a** real quick. I just turned 27 @issarae, I’m starting to appear as an adult no. I’m ready! Or let’s just kill her ass off frfr (but continue to pay the actress because she was great!)
No matter what happens, or if Palmer finds her way onto the show, we can all rest assured that the coronavirus will have no place in Insecure. Penny explained,
We never like to give anything too much power. We’re not that show. But part of our show is about dealing with social, cultural, and political things. We still want to have a show that’s about Black love and Black beauty. We need to reflect that because the idea of being a spokesperson for Black pain or what’s happening would really pigeonhole us. We’re trying to write it like there’s something in the air that’s been happening.
