Inside Former ‘Basketball Wives’ Star Draya Michele’s Breakup with Orlando Scandrick
Basketball Wives alum Dray Michele is single and out on the prowl. The swimsuit line owner and friend to Kylie Jenner announced that she and her longtime boyfriend, Orlando Scandrick, have called it quits. They’ve broken up and gotten back together before but this might truly be the end for the two of them.
Draya Michele and Orlando Scandrick’s relationship
Michele and Scandrick first began dating around 2014. She introduced him to her fans while she was still a cast member on Basketball Wives LA. While most of her castmates were supportive, Jackie Christi was not.
Season three of the show chronicled Christi’s daughter, Chantel, and Michele feuding over Scandrick. According to Chantel, she and Scandrick dated during the time he and Michele began seeing one another. Scandrick denied that he was ever in a relationship with Chantel. Michele left the show after the season ended to focus on her swimsuit line and other businesses. She later revealed that she regretted participating in the show because she felt it negatively portrayed black women.
Scandrick and Michele became engaged shortly after. In January 2016, Michele announced she was expecting her first child with Scandrick. She has one son from a previous relationship and Scandrick has twin daughters from a previous relationship as well. They welcomed their son, Jru, the same year.
They’ve had an on-again-off-again relationship almost from the start. In a recent interview with E! News Just The Sip, she revealed that she and Scandrick weren’t rushing down the aisle because they needed to sort out a prenuptial agreement. She also mentioned that she was hesitant to get married because of Scandrick’s unknown future in the NFL in comparison to her booming businesses.
Draya Michele confirms she and Orlando Scandrick split
Michele and Scandrick appear to be done. She took to Instagram on Christmas Day and dropped the bombshell after weeks of speculation. In an Instagram story, she wrote, “I have been single the entire month of December. So if anyone has anything to say about me or the guy I used to be engaged to, save, it. We don’t care” She ended, “Merry Christmas everyone.”
This isn’t the pair’s first breakup. In May 2015, they experienced their first split after about two years of dating. A month later, they reconciled and Scandrick proposed to Michele with a $400,000 engagement ring.
“He got down on one knee and as soon as he started to talk I got nervous and couldn’t help but to laugh hysterically. I was laughing and crying at the same time,” the reality star told PEOPLE.
The engagement didn’t stop their nasty fights. During one fight, Scandrick accused Michele of pepper-spraying him and throwing candles at him. In a restraining order petition, he said Michele even threatened to throw bleach in his eyes. Michele later revealed that she’d never been served the restraining order.
With as many times as they’ve broken up only to get back together, a reconciliation is very much possible. Or, the two could choose to finally go their separate ways in 2020 and leave their alleged toxic patterns behind them.
