Inside Frank Sinatra and Mia Farrow’s $5 Million New York Penthouse
Their marriage was brief, but Frank Sinatra and Mia Farrow lived in style for its duration. Though Sinatra spent a good deal of time in California, the couple resided in an expansive penthouse on New York City’s Upper East Side. Sinatra sold the home in 1972, but it provided him with a place to stay on the East Coast. Here’s a peek inside the couple’s glamorous Manhattan home.
Frank Sinatra and Mia Farrow were married for two years
Sinatra and Farrow felt an immediate connection when they first met. He knew that he wanted to get to know her.
“I was hers, instantly,” Sinatra said, per the New York Post. “I loved that hair, man. I think the hair’s what got me.”
Farrow, while embarrassed to have spilled the contents of her purse in front of the older musician, felt a similar emotion.
“I thought the only thing I could do was to get out of there with any shred of dignity that might remain,” she explained. “And as I stood up to leave, his eyes met mine, and my heart stopped, you know? Everything came together. I was just so alive in that moment.”
The couple shared a penthouse on the Upper East Side
Two years later, the couple married and moved into a New York City penthouse together. The building, which bumps up against the East River, is on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Per the New York Post, Sinatra bought the 3,200-square-foot unit in 1961. The home had 18-foot ceilings and expansive windows, providing a stunning view of the river and outer boroughs.
The penthouse has four bedrooms and six bathrooms, in addition to an extra 2,000-square-feet of terrace space. On nights when Sinatra hosted particularly raucous parties — inviting the likes of Andy Warhol, Marilyn Monroe, and John F. Kennedy — his friend Sammy Davis Jr. reportedly threw champagne flutes onto FDR Drive below.
Per App., Sinatra sold the penthouse to his doctor in 1972. It has since been updated to include a putting green and a spiral staircase with floating glass steps that replicate the one at Manhattan’s Apple Store. The penthouse sold for $5 million in 2015.
Frank Sinatra and Mia Farrow remained friends following their divorce
Sinatra kept the apartment for another four years following his 1968 divorce from Farrow. Though she moved out and the couple split, they remained close friends for years. Even when they divorced, Farrow said that she didn’t want to take money from him. Instead, she wanted his friendship and respect.
She has had other relationships since Sinatra but considers him to be the love of her life. She also shared that though they finalized the divorce, their relationship didn’t ever entirely end. They were close friends who spoke often, but they also maintained a romantic relationship.
“He came back, over and over and over and over,” she told Vanity Fair. “I mean, we never really split up.”
