Inside Michelle Pfeiffer and David Kelley’s Totally Un-Romantic First Date
Celebrities can have a tough time of it when they decide to enter the dating world. A lot of times, it can be difficult to share commonalities with people who aren’t in the industry, and when it comes to dating fellow celebrities, the water can get even murkier.
Still, for a few lucky celeb couples who have been lucky enough to find their forever partner, all the difficulties of dating can be well worth it — especially in the case of Michelle Pfeiffer and her longtime husband, David Kelley.
Keep reading to learn about this celebrity couple‘s interesting first date, how long they have been together, and some other hilarious celeb first-date stories.
How did Michelle Pfeiffer and David Kelley first meet?
Michelle Pfeiffer first rose to fame in the eighties and quickly achieved recognition for her delicate, blonde beauty and ethereal features. Her first real “Hollywood” romance was with fellow actor Peter Horton. The two married in 1981 and worked together several times during that decade.
However, they split in 1988 and ended up divorcing for good in 1990. Following her marriage to Horton, Pfeiffer dated another actor named Fisher Stevens. She also had a brief fling with acclaimed actor John Malkovich.
After a string of failed relationships, Pfeiffer might have thought that she would never meet the man of her dreams. Still, in January of 1993, Pfeiffer went on a blind date with writer David Kelley.
What they did on their first date became the stuff of Hollywood legend — instead of reclining in a five-star restaurant, Pfeiffer and Kelley went out for a night of bowling.
Clearly, the date went very well indeed, for they became exclusive shortly after that and married that same year.
How long have Michelle Pfeiffer and David Kelley been married?
Michelle Pfeiffer and David Kelley married in 1993 and have been together ever since. They have two children together, and even after decades together, still absolutely love being with each other.
In a 2012 interview, Pfeiffer opened up about her longtime love, admitting that she “got really lucky” and never takes him for granted. As to the reasons why she loves him so much, Pfeiffer stated that she’s never met anyone with more integrity than Kelley and that she really respects him for that.
Clearly, their bizarre first date must have provided the perfect backdrop for a lifetime of happiness. Michelle Pfeiffer and David Kelley provide an ideal example of a celebrity couple that has stood the test of time.
Funny celebrity first date stories
Michelle Pfeiffer and David Kelley aren’t the only longtime couple that experienced an unusual first date.
Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi enjoyed their first date simply driving around in a car. As DeGeneres described it, the tabloids still hadn’t gotten wind of them as an item, so they decided to spend their first date in the most low-key way possible. It must have been a great car ride, for DeGeneres and de Rossi married in 2008 and are still happily together.
Kate Hudson and Danny Fujikawa are another celeb couple who didn’t exactly have a conventional first date. Hudson and Fujikawa were friends for years when Fujikawa took Hudson out on a hike — and Hudson realized that the hike was a bit more romantic than just a walk around the block.
Still, Hudson claimed that it took “months” for Fujikawa to actually make a move. However long it took Fujikawa to declare his true intentions, everything ended up working out well for the couple – Hudson gave birth to the couple’s daughter, Rani Rose, in October 2018.
