In the 1990s, some rappers wanted nothing more than to work with Suge Knight. One of the founders of Death Row records, Knight became a fixture in pop culture. But after his fall from grace, how much is the former executive worth now? And how does it compare to his net worth at the peak of his career?

Knight’s success helped generate a lot of money for Death Row records. The mogul originally partnered with Dr. Dre to create the record label, meeting the future Aftermath mogul through a mutual friend. Other notable associates a part of Death Row were The D.O.C, Michael Harris, and later Tupac and Snoop Dogg.

Albums like “The Chronic” and “Doggystyle” were huge successes that generated a lot of money for the label. Celebrity Net Worth noted that at the height of the label’s powers, it was worth $750 million after selling 150 million albums worldwide. According to And Scape, this led to Knight having a net worth of over $100 million. But because of legal troubles and controversy, Knight wouldn’t stay in that position for long.

Suge Knight’s net worth now

Celebrity Net Worth reported that Suge Knight’s net worth has dropped down to $200,000 over the years. A lot of this was due to poor financial management. Knight owed the IRS $6.5 million in taxes. He also owed the wife of a business partner $107 million, which forced him to file bankruptcy for Death Row records.

Before this, Knight tried to bring his Death Row records back to prominence, as the label took a hit for several reasons. Some of which had to do with Knight being in prison from 1996 to 2001 for assaulting a rival gang member. Death Row had also faced a few financial troubles like separating from Interscope which left it financially vulnerable.

When Knight got out of prison, he would attempt to rebuild Death Row. Rapper Crooked I, who was briefly signed to Death Row, detailed how Knight attempted his comeback.

“He said, ‘Let’s go to New York —we’ve got to let the world know that we’re back,’” Crooked told Roling Stone. “So we hit the media trail very hard —went to all the main stations, all the magazines, everything. It just felt like, ‘OK, it’s about to pop off.’”

But Knight’s reputation eventually caught up with him.

“A lot of people didn’t want to see Suge succeed,” Crooked continued. “People were intimidated by him. The ball would start moving, and then it would just stop dead.”

Recently, Snoop Dog has brought back Death Row records in a new way.

Suge Knight is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence for voluntary manslaughter. NBC News reported that in 2015, he ran over businessman Terry Carter with his car. He also crushed the ankles of Cre Sloan, a consultant and former Compton gang member on the biopic Straight Outta Compton. This all stemmed from Knight feeling like his likeness was being used for the movie without anyone consulting him. This would lead to Knight trying to confront the film’s crew about the situation.

Sloan, who happened to be present at the time, confronted Knight.

“Why don’t you leave so we can move forward? You got the white folks scared,” Sloan told Knight.

Carter, who was good friends with Dr. Dre and Ice Cube, would meet with Knight to settle the dispute about the film. According to Sloan, Knight began to bad-mouth Sloan to Carter right when Sloan would arrive to meet the two. Sloan would then try to assault Knight, who was still sitting in his car at the time. Knight later used his car to crush Sloan’s ankles before running over a fleeing Carter, killing him.

It was a situation that Sloan heavily regretted.

“Every day, I try to forget it,” Sloan said. “I screwed up, and Terry’s dead.”
