Inside ‘Yellowstone’ Prequel ‘1883’ All-Star Cast
Fans who can’t get enough of Yellowstone are in luck. The Paramount Network series is getting a prequel titled 1883. The new series follows the Dutton family in the late 19th century as they travel from Texas to Montana to create the ranch that started it all. The Yellowstone prequel has already added some big names to the cast list of 1883. Here’s everything we now so far about the new series and cast.
What is the ‘Yellowstone’ prequel ‘1883’ about?
The Yellowstone prequel 1883 follows the Dutton family as they trek across the Great Plains, from Texas to Montana. The show’s official synopsis on TV Guide reads, “1883 follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land – Montana.”
Eventually, the Dutton family would settle in Montana and grow their ranch to be the largest in America. The prequel will follow James and Margaret Dutton, the patriarch and matriarch of the Dutton family, as well as their daughter Elsa Dutton.
‘1883’ already boasts a star-studded cast
1883 already has an impressive cast, so the new series is definitely something to look forward to. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill will play the matriarch and patriarch of the Dutton family, TVLine reports. Not only is McGraw a legendary country music singer, but he has also already guest-starred in an episode of Yellowstone.
Interestingly, McGraw’s on-screen wife will be fellow country music singer Faith Hill, who has been his real wife for 25 years. Hill will tackle the role of Margaret Dutton. Actor Isabel May also joins the cast as Elsa Dutton, the daughter of James and Margaret Dutton.
Several other big names have also been confirmed for the Yellowstone prequel, 1883. Academy Award winner Billy Bob Thornton plays Marshal Jim Courtright, though there aren’t too many details on the character yet. Thornton is a legendary actor known for his role in the TV show Goliath, the film Sling Blade, and so much more.
Academy Award nominee Sam Elliott is featured in the teaser trailer for 1883. Elliott will play Shea Brennan, a cowboy tasked with guiding the group on the trek from Texas to Montana, TVLine reports. Elliott’s performance is something to look forward to. He has plenty of experience playing the cowboy type, from his role as the stranger in The Big Lebowski to starring in the Netflix series The Ranch.
Where to watch the ‘Yellowstone’ prequel ‘1883’
1883 premieres Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021. The new series will be available exclusively on the streaming platform Paramount+. Like the original Yellowstone series, the prequel will feature 10 episodes in total in the first season. Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan takes the reigns for this new project. Fans can’t wait to see what the prequel will reveal about the Dutton family.
