The current monarch, King Charles, stepped into his role immediately following the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II. He’ll be the king until he either dies or allows his firstborn son, Prince William, to take over. But the royal family certainly has its share of family drama.

Up until now, it’s been relatively unknown what Charles’ relationship with his two grandchildren looks like. Now, though, an insider claims things are nonexistent between Charles and two of his grandchildren: Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s kids.

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are not close with King Charles

It’s to be expected that Charles would have a closer relationship with Prince William and Kate Middleton’s kids. After all, William and Kate are working royals who live in the United Kingdom, and Charles sees Prince George, Princes Charlotte, and Prince Louis fairly often. However, the public had hoped that Charles still had some kind of behind-the-scenes relationship with Archie and Lilibet — but this doesn’t appear to be the case. According to Express, a source close to the king spoke to Daily Mail and revealed that there is “no relationship” between Charles and the Sussex kiddos. “The fact is that Harry and Meghan are a source of strain and worry for His Majesty,” the source said.

The source continued, “While he is sorry that he does not have a relationship with his grandchildren in America, it is easier for his peace of mind that there’s an ocean between him and Harry.”

Harry and Meghan reportedly brought their kids to the UK back in 2022, however, the Sussex children have not returned since. Charles has never visited the United States, so it appears they have not seen their grandfather in more than two years.

Will King Charles ever connect with his grandkids?

Charles and the Wales children seem to have a sweet bond, but the same can’t be said for Archie and Lilibet’s relationship with their grandfather — and that likely won’t change. Last year, the royals went through a difficult time with Charles and Kate Middleton both having been diagnosed with cancer. And while it reportedly did bring Harry and his father closer, it doesn’t seem to have closed the gap in Charles’ emotional distance with his grandchildren.

If Charles and the Sussex kids have not become closer yet, then they likely won’t. It seems Harry and Meghan are content with their lives in California and have no plans to return to the UK, which means Archie and Lili might go their whole lives without ever really knowing their grandfather.
