Prince Harry and Meghan Markle traveled to Nigeria in May to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games the duke founded. But their visit to the country had all the makings of a royal tour, which reportedly angered King Charles.

However, a source close to Meghan and Harry says that the duchess is unbothered by what anyone in her husband’s family thinks and has a plan in motion to become “bigger and better” than the royals at doing what they do.

As many royal watchers have pointed out, the Duchess of Sussex has been struggling to find her footing and long-term success in Hollywood since stepping down from royal duties in 2020. But the Sussexes’ trip to Nigeria was widely viewed as a success, and an insider says Meghan now has members of her team working on booking more visits for her and Harry to other countries.

The insider told Closer: “As far as [the Sussexes] are concerned, things in Nigeria couldn’t have gone better and it’s really got them excited about all the possibilities. Meghan’s now drawing up a new plan of attack, basically a blueprint of how to put together more tours in the most streamlined and effective way possible.”

They added that the duchess has “tasked members of her team with submitting ideas on the best places to visit, who they need to reach out to as far as dignitaries and charities as well as what media to recruit for the visits.”

Moreover, the duke and duchess “don’t plan to limit themselves to the Commonwealth, they want to make this bigger and better than what the royals have done in the past.”

It’s not just King Charles, Prince William is also said to have been angered by the Sussexes’ trip to Nigeria. A Palace source explained that the monarch and his oldest son do not have any issue with the Sussexes’ charity work, they have a problem with how their trip resembled a royal tour even though Meghan and Harry are no longer working royals.

The source added that the trip was a “carbon copy of what the royals do” with the perception that they’re “brazenly trading on the family name after they were specifically told not to” and they “always seem to time their trips to coincide with one of the senior royal’s engagements. It’s so obvious that they’re trying to capitalize on that for publicity.”

The insider close to Meghan fired back, saying that she is “not going to be told what she can and can’t do, especially in regards to charity … Meghan and Harry aren’t surprised that the royals have found fault with their tour of Nigeria. They’re disappointed for sure, but not surprised.

“And they’re certainly not going to let their negativity stop them from arranging more tours. Their conscience is completely clear on this plan because they intend to do good wherever they go.”
