Is ’90 Day Fiancé’ Becoming ‘Too Fake’? Some Fans Think So
When it comes to TLC’s hit reality show, 90 Day Fiancé, there’s always bound to be drama. The show features individuals seeking love with foreigners who, in some cases, they’ve never met in person before. However, while the premise often results in believable and expected drama, some fans feel as if recent seasons have become a little too unbelievable. Some are even saying recent seasons feel too “fake” or “scripted.” And fans aren’t the only ones feeling that way — recent cast members have called out TLC and 90 Day Fiancé for how the show has been edited.
Michael Jessen’s ex-wife calls out TLC
In recent seasons, it seems as if 90 Day Fiancé cast members are less willing to be silent when it comes to editing. In the most recent season of 90 Day Fiancé, Sarah Jessen, Michael Jessen’s ex-wife, called out TLC for the way she was edited on the show.
During a dinner scene with Michael Jessen, Juliana Custodio, and Sarah Jessen, Sarah discussed how she felt about co-parenting and Custodio. At one point she tells Custodio, “The kids have great parents. Michael is a great father and I’m a great mom. And what I want from you is to not parent, at all.”
The way it was framed made Sarah Jessen look domineering and slightly upset. However, Jessen took to Facebook to claim that reality is entirely different. She wrote, “[T]he ‘I don’t want you to parent’ comment was cut mid-sentence. What they edited out was the reason I have her which was ‘you’re adjusting to a new home, a new country and have a new relationship. I don’t want you to feel the added stress of feeling the responsibility of trying to parent Max and Cece.’”
Jessen added, “Juliana and I are EXTREMELY close and I hope the producers will end up showing how our relationship has evolved and you will stay tuned with an open mind and heart.”
Jasmin Lahtinen and Emily Larina also call out ‘90 Day Fiancé’
Sarah Jessen isn’t the only one feeling a little frustrated with 90 Day Fiancé and TLC. In fact, Jasmin Lahtinen even called the show fake at one point.
Some fans of the show were irritated with how Jasmin Lahtinen and Blake Abelard interacted. One fan interacted with Lahtinen via Instagram, where they told her, “I feel like you think you are too good for the world! Your attitude sucks! Makes it seem you’re with him for papers, just my opinion.”
Lahtinen replied, “Fake tv show.”
Emily Larina was also frustrated with how TLC and 90 Day Fiancé represented her husband on the show. On Instagram, she wrote in part, “For a while, I was disappointed that the world didn’t get to meet the Sasha I know. The man I know is always thinking about how he can be a better provider for his family. The man who sees something in the store and says, ‘I want to send this to my father, son, brother, etc.’ The man who doesn’t have a lot of possessions because he’s so giving.”
Some fans feel ‘90 Day Fiancé’ is getting too ‘fake’
It’s not just the cast members who are getting fed up with 90 Day Fiancé edits and storylines. A few fans of the show took to Reddit recently to air their grievances.
One user wrote a post explaining how they feel as if the new season has an exciting cast, better than the most recent. Many users seemed to disagree. One commented, “I whole heartedly disagree. This season is a flaming dumpster of fraud and cringe so far.”
Another added, “ I dislike several cast members/storylines so much that I’m fast forwarding through them already. I may finally be done with 90 Day. It is too over the top now.”
“I agree. It seems like most, if not all, of the storylines are fake and the majority of the cast members have online “businesses” and they are just doing it for the publicity,” commented another fan.
A commenter added, “The show is getting so fake now, it’s almost unwatchable. I didn’t even watch the last few episodes (last season or this new one) live, because I’m just not excited anymore.”
