Is a Mac Miller Biopic in the Works? Here’s What We Know
Music fans are still mourning the death of rapper Mac Miller over a year after his death. A potential film on the rapper’s life is gaining more visibility due to a yearly survey called The Black List.
What is The Black List?
The Black List is an annual list of the industry executives’ favorite, unproduced screenplays. Though a lot of the projects may have a producer or studio behind it, the catch is that the project may not be in principal photography during the year it is on the list. Otherwise, it can be included.
According to The Black List, “more than 400 Black List scripts have been produced, grossing over $26 billion in box office worldwide.” Movies produced from The Black List scripts have also won 53 Academy Award out of 262 nominations. Just recently, a The Black List script, Queen & Slim, hit theaters.
This year’s list includes a script based on an upcoming Mac Miller documentary, meaning that soon, we could get a biopic on the rapper’s life. Miller died in 2018 at the age of 26 after an accidental drug overdose.
More on ‘Blue Slide Park’ and what happens next
Titled Blue Slide Park, the here’s the potential film’s description: “After his first album topped the Billboard Charts, life was never the same for Malcolm McCormick aka Mac Miller. This is his story of music, love, success, family, and addiction.” The script was adapted by writer Kyle Anderson and Roswell, New Mexico actor Michael Vlamis from the manuscript of the upcoming untitled Mac Miller biography by Paul Cantor. The project currently doesn’t have a financier and no producers are attached as of yet.
Now that the project is on The Black List, this means it will have more visibility. With more eyes on it, the screen can lure financiers or a production company, and then ultimately, be produced as a feature film.
