For many fans all around the world, BTS is one of the greatest boy bands of all time. The seven-member celebrity group co-writes and co-produces many of their own songs, placing them in rarified company — and many of their songs touch on topics that strike a chord with their younger fans. BTS is known for tunes that deal with adolescent struggles such as depression, anxiety, individualism, and other mental health issues. The group has received numerous awards and honors over the past few years, but with the 10-year anniversary of their debut as a band rapidly approaching, many fans are wondering just how long BTS will stay together.

BTS was formed in 2010 and debuted as a band in 2013. There are seven members of BTS, known to fans as Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. Every one of the group’s members has their own, distinct personality, and every one of them brings something unique to the table. From the initial formation of the band to today, BTS has earned a reputation for standing apart from other K-pop groups. The group members don’t shy away from difficult topics and have taken a stand against bullying, calling upon the group’s fanbase to treat each other with respect and love.

In 2017, BTS crossed into the global market, dominating the airwaves and selling out stadiums around the world. For many American fans, BTS was their introduction to the world of K-pop, and the group is widely credited with popularizing the K-pop genre in America and England. BTS has won numerous awards, including six American Music Awards, nine Billboard Music Awards, and a Grammy Award nomination.

Is BTS breaking up?

Many boy bands have a shelf life of a few years or more and with BTS now at their 10-year mark, many fans are starting to wonder if the group will disband soon. Some rumors have started to swirl, but according to Distractify, there is nothing concrete to suggest that BTS will break up soon. In fact, even though some of the group’s members have experienced solo success, there is one specific reason why fans shouldn’t look to the group breaking up for at least four years or more.

As reported by Billboard, BTS signed a new seven-year contract in 2018 — meaning that they have a vested interest in remaining together as a group until at least 2025. At that time, the group could decide to sign another contract and remain together for another few years. However, a few factors could influence BTS’ decision to break up or stay together when their contract nears expiration. Notably, there is a required military transcription in South Korea, one that calls for young Korean men to serve two years in the military by the time that they are 30. All members of BTS fall under this age range, so it seems likely that they will be individually called upon to serve in the next few years.

Additionally, the members of BTS have admitted to struggling with their own mental health issues while living as superstars, revealing that the pressures of fame have caused problems within the group. Still, with the new contract, as well as BTS’ commitment to creating new music for their fans, it seems likely that fans will be able to enjoy the vocal stylings of BTS for the foreseeable future.
