Is Chris Stapleton Married and How Many Kids Does He Have?
Chris Stapleton is a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter known for not only writing hit songs for other people but for writing and performing his own music.
After years of working in the music industry as a successful songwriter, Stapleton drew public attention when he performed alongside Justin Timberlake at the 2015 Country Music Awards singing “Say Something.” Since then Stapleton’s released two studio albums and won five Grammys. But through it all, he’s had his wife, Morgane, by his side. Ahead, learn more about Stapleton’s family.
Chris and Morgane Stapleton met in 2003
Born in Kentucky, Stapleton moved to Nashville, Tenn., in 2001 to pursue a career as a songwriter. Two years after moving to the city he met his future wife, who went by her maiden name of Morgane Hayes. Also a singer-songwriter, Morgane had a friend who worked with Stapleton. She’d often find herself sitting in that friend’s office waiting for Stapleton to walk by.
“We’d hear the jingle of his keys as he walked down the hall, and we knew he was coming to play us whatever new song he had written,” Morgane told The Washington Post in 2015.
Getting together on a Friday night under the guise of writing a song became their first date.
“Eventually he asked me to write a song with him, and that ended up being our first date,” Morgane told the publication before adding, “We didn’t get much writing done that night.”
They got married in 2007
Stapleton and Morgane married four years later in 2007. Before the ceremony, the bride had the words “You Are My Sunshine,” inscribed on the groom’s wedding ring.
“That’s our story,” Stapleton later told Rolling Stone. The Jimmie Davis song is one he and Morgane often perform together on stage.
Not only are they married but they work together. Morgane combed through upwards of 1,000 songs written by Stapleton to help create the tracklist that eventually became part of Traveller, Stapleton’s 2015 debut solo album. And she sings backup on her husband’s songs.
For the most part, the couple gets along but that doesn’t mean they don’t have the occasional argument.
“Oh, we drive each other crazy once in a while,” Morgane said. “But being without each other drives us even more crazy.”

Stapleton and Morgane are pretty private about their family life. Aside from the occasional Instagram post or a rare red carpet appearance, they keep their kids out of the public eye.
But here’s what we do know about the country music couple’s family. They have a son and a daughter who are reportedly around the ages of 10 and 8, according to Country Living. And in 2018 at the Academy of Country Music Awards, host Reba McEntire announced the couple welcomed twin boys — born a month early — during the ceremony. The couple kept the names of the babies private but did share a cute snapshot on Instagram.
In Nov. 2018, Stapleton announced during a concert he and his wife were expecting another child. They became parents for the fifth time and announced the arrival of their newest addition — another baby boy — with an Instagram post on May 12, 2019, followed by another adorable picture on May 29, 2019.
