From Singin’ in the Rain to Star Wars: The Force Awakens to American Horror Story, the iconic actors in this family span a few generations. Here’s what we know about Debbie Reynolds, Carrie Fisher, Billie Lourd, their family, and their fan-favorite projects.
Yes, Billie Lourd is related to ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ actor, Debbie Reynolds
She tap-danced her way into fans’ hearts with the movie-musical, Singin’ in the Rain. Since then, the actor Debbie Reynolds appeared in Tammy and the Bachelor and the beloved Disney Channel movie, Halloweentown.
She had a child of her own, who eventually became the renowned actor, Carrie Fisher. Then, Carrie Fisher had a daughter of her own, Billie Lourd, who became an actor herself. That means that yes, Lourd is related to Reynolds, despite how different the projects they work on have been.
Three generations of women in this family became actors
Reynolds wasn’t the only member of this family who made it big in the acting world. Her daughter, Fisher, became one of the main characters in the Star Wars universe, Princess Leia, who eventually became the Jedi Master and one of the leaders in the resistance, General Organa.
Together with Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, she helped save the galaxy from the Empire and the Sith Lord, Emperor Palpatine. Her daughter eventually joined the franchise with the sequel trilogy.
She portrayed one of the members of the resistance, starring alongside her mother for a number of scenes. That is, until her mother’s passing before the release of The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.
“I’ve always kind of lived in their shadows, and now is the first time in my life when I get to own my life and stand on my own,” Lourd said during an interview with Town and Country Magazine. “I love being my mother’s daughter, and it’s something I always will be, but now I get to be just Billie.”
Billie Lourd went on to appear in ‘Star Wars’ and ‘American Horror Story’
The youngest in this line of actors, Lourd, went on to appear in a few other projects besides those related to Star Wars. For American Horror Story: Apocalypse, she portrayed a witch sent to save the world from the antichrist.
For AHS: 1984, she portrayed a totally tubular jazzercise enthusiast, caught in some gnarly murders in the middle of the woods. The actor is also set to appear in the 10th season of this series, alongside Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, which is currently in production.
