‘Is It Cake?’: Why the Episode 5 Guest Judges Look so Familiar
Last month, Netflix released a wild new game show titled Is It Cake? During the competition, nine bakers created incredible cakes made to look like everyday items. If the bakers could fool the judges, they had the opportunity to win cash prizes. Is It Cake? brought in new celebrity guests for each episode, and the judges for episode 5 probably looked pretty familiar.
‘Is It Cake?’ features celebrity guest judges
Is It Cake? is an interesting game show competition with a host of celebrity guest judges. Competitors select an everyday item to recreate as realistically as possible in an attempt to fool the judges. The bakers are also able to choose items to help hide their cakes.
For example, if a baker is creating a shoe cake, they are able to choose several other real shoes to put their cake next to. The celebrity judges must then deliberate amongst themselves to find the real cake. If they choose wrong, then the baker is in the running to win a cash prize.
‘Is It Cake?’ Episode 5 featured Rebecca Black as a guest judge
Is It Cake? Episode 5 featured some pretty recognizable faces, including singer Rebecca Black, whose debut single “Friday” became something of an internet sensation back in 2011. Although the song received a lot of negative attention, a lot has changed for the now 24-year-old Black.
Last summer she released an EP titled Rebecca Black was Here, which NME hailed as a “viral star finding her voice,” says The Chicago Sun Times. During her time on Is It Cake? Black also shared that she is going on tour in 2022. The singer sported red hair and a brightly colored rainbow dress for her appearance on the show.
Arturo Castro also made an appearance in episode 5
Actor Arturo Castro judged alongside Rebecca Black in Is It Cake? Episode 5. Castro is an actor known for his roles in TV shows such as Broad City and Narcos. Castro plays Llana’s roommate Jaime in Broad City and tackled the much more series role of David Rodríguez in Narcos.
While on Is It Cake? Castro joked about these two very different roles with host Mikey Day. “The Broad City fans have no boundaries. They’re like ‘Please kiss my baby. Please lick this arm.’ But the Narcos ones come up like, ‘Mr. Castro,'” he said.
Jon Gabrus rounded out the celebrity guests in episode 5
Is It Cake? Episode 5’s final guest judge probably looked pretty familiar. Actor, comedian, and writer Jon Gabrus made an appearance, joking about his “cake bod” during the episode. Gabrus has also been featured in Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Adam Ruins Everything, What We Do in the Shadows, and Workaholics, according to IMDb. He has also been involved in quite a few CollegeHumor Originals.
