Is Jessica Simpson Married?
There was a time when Jessica Simpson’s love life was all anyone could talk about! Her relationship with heartthrob Nick Lachey was endlessly cataloged, swooned over, and documented, and it broke fans’ hearts when the pair divorced.
Since then, news about Simpson’s relationships has been decidedly less flashy, and many fans may be left wondering what she’s up to these days.
Simpson and Lachey seemed like a match made in heaven
Simpson crashed onto the music scene in 1999 and went on to become a megastar almost instantly. Around the same time, she met Nick Lachey, then a member of the sizzling hot boy group 98 Degrees, at the Hollywood Christmas Parade. He was 24 and she was only 18, and the pair began a whirlwind romance that had fans cheering.
At the time, Simpson’s image was wrapped up in youthful innocence, and she captivated the world—and the tabloids—with her insistence that she would remain a virgin until marriage.
This attention grew. Simpson’s father and manager, Joe Simpson, recognized an opportunity for promotion. Simpson and Lachey’s relationship became a huge production, and the pair were wed in 2002—allegedly with a lot of pressure from Simpson’s dad.
Joe Simpson would go on to produce the reality TV show Newlyweds, which followed Lachey and Simpson in their new life as a married couple. All of that attention and fandom couldn’t have helped their relationship, and the pair were split by 2005 and divorced in 2006.
Lachey met his current wife that same year and has been happily married ever since.
Simpson moved on to happier times
The divorce was difficult on Simpson, and in 2009, she told Glamour that she was unsure she’d ever marry again:
“It was hard to imagine I would ever walk down the aisle again. It was like a death in the family: You go through the mourning stage, then the rebellion, and then all of a sudden you have to find life by yourself. Once you do that, you feel complete—and that’s the only time you can truly fall in love again, and give yourself over completely to another person.”
It took some time for Simpson to move through that process, but move on she did.
She had some high-profile relationships including one with musician John Mayer and another with quarterback Tony Romo. Both of those relationships ended, but in 2010, she started dating retired NFL player Eric Johnson.
Since his time in the spotlight was behind him, Simpson got a much-needed breather from the high-profile attention her past relationships had gotten.
Marriage and a family followed quickly
They met in May of 2010 and were engaged by November. In fact, it was November 11 at 11:11 a.m., and there were rose petals involved. They had a long engagement that was punctuated with some very exciting events.
They welcomed their daughter Maxwell in 2011 and their son Ace in 2013. Simpson, in her signature comedic flair, joked with Jay Leno that the pair had set two different wedding dates that had to be moved because, as Simpson put it, “he keeps knocking me up!”
They did finally tie the knot in July of 2015 in a huge, weekend-long wedding event with more than 275 guests. Their children served as ring bearer and flower girl.
The couple weren’t done yet, though! In March of 2019, their family grew yet again. They became a family of five with the addition of their second daughter, Birdie.
There may have been a time when everyone knew every detail of Simpson’s love life, but these days her family is out of the spotlight and into a much cozier and happier life together.
