Is Kate Middleton Working Behind the Scenes to Mend the Relationship Between Prince Harry and Prince William?
The bond between siblings is like no other. But even the strongest bonds are not unbreakable. Since Prince Harry stepped down from his role as a senior member of the royal family, things between him and some members of his family have been tense. He’s even spoken about the distance that has grown between him and his brother, Prince William. Before his marriage to Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry was quite close to his brother’s wife Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Is Kate Middleton bringing Prince Harry and Prince William back together?
The rift between Harry and William
While on his African tour, Prince Harry admitted that he and his brother were on different paths. But then in 2020, Harry stepped away from being a working member of the royal family completely after Meghan expressed how damaging it had been for her mental health.
“By that point, I took matters into my own hand.” Harry told Oprah Winfrey in an interview of his decision to step away from royal life. “It was like, ‘I need to do this for my family.’ This is not a surprise to anybody. It’s really sad that it’s gotten to this point, but I’ve got to do something for my own mental health, my wife’s, and for Archie’s, as well, because I could see where this was headed.”
Since Harry and Meghan have moved to America, Harry’s relationship with some family members, like his grandmother, have strengthened, while his relationship with others, like his brother and father, Prince Charles, have been stressed.
“I love William to bits,” Harry told Oprah. “He’s my brother and we’ve been through hell together but we were on different paths.”
He admitted that he and his brother were not in the best place at the moment.
“The relationship is space at the moment and time heals all things hopefully,” he said.

When Harry returned to England for his grandfather, Prince Philip’s funeral, all eyes were on the royal brothers to see how they would be around one another. The brothers remained professional as usual. While no grand reconciliation happened, Kate has reportedly been angling for one.
“It’s always been my understanding that behind the scenes, Kate has tried very hard to forge a rapprochement and act as a peacemaker between William and Harry,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight. “She loves Harry. She says that she is the sister that he never had. She has been heartbroken to see them fall out, and I think she is one of the few people, one of the few family members who would actually be able to push the brothers together, which she did in a very subtle way, but was very effective.”
Harry will be back in the U.K. in July for the commemoration of his late mother, Princess Diana, so the brothers will have another chance to reconnect and potentially mend broken fences.
