From The Matrix to John Wick, there’s no doubt Keanu Reeves has solidified himself as a seriously influential actor — and we’re seeing more of him than usual thanks to the major success of John Wick 3. While Reeves appears happy from an outsider’s perspective, we can’t forget that he’s lived through some serious tragedies in the past. From his best friend’s death to his father leaving his family to his sister’s leukemia diagnosis, life — and holding on to those he loves most — hasn’t been easy for the A-lister.

It appears Reeves may be giving everyone hints that he hasn’t totally given up hope on love, however. Here’s what’s been going on recently that has everyone thinking he could be ready for romance.

Keanu Reeves has a tragic past when it comes to his love life

If there’s any personal tragedy of Reeves’ that his fans know best, it’s what occurred with his ex-girlfriend. He met fellow actress Jennifer Syme back in 1998, and while they were expecting a baby girl in 2000, tragedy struck when their daughter was stillborn, People reports. The grief proved to pull them in different directions after that. While they broke up, they remained incredibly close and would still keep in touch from time to time. Sadly, on April 2, 2000, Syme lost control of her Jeep, sideswiped several cars, and was ejected from her own vehicle, dying instantly.

Reeves doesn’t talk about Syme often, but he did mention the impact grief has had on his life to Parade Magazine. “Grief changes shape, but it never ends. People have a misconception that you can deal with it and say, ‘It’s gone, and I’m better.’ They’re wrong,” he said. “All you can do is hope that grief will be transformed and, instead of feeling pain and confusion, you will be together again in memory, that there will be solace and pleasure there, not just loss.”

He recently told Ellen DeGeneres that he had a crush on Sandra Bullock

He may seem like somewhat of a loner, but Reeves may actually desire romance more than we think. As he reportedly told Parade, “I’m trying not to be alone so much. And, man, it’s a struggle. I want to get married. I want to have kids. That’s at the top of the mountain. I’ve got to climb the mountain first. I’ll do it.” And more recently when he appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to promote John Wick 3, he shared with DeGeneres that he had a crush on Speed co-star Sandra Bullock.

To start off the conversation, DeGeneres replayed a clip of Bullock talking about Reeves on the show. “I think about how sweet Keanu Reeves was, and how handsome he was,” Bullock started. And when DeGeneres asked Reeves if he knew she had a crush on him, he shook his head “no.” To everyone’s surprise, he then added, “She obviously didn’t know I had a crush on her, either.” The two never got together, as we know — and Bullock is currently in a happy relationship of her own. But fans loved seeing Reeves get this candid about potential romance.

Reeves was reportedly just seen flirting with an ex-girlfriend

He may or may not be open to getting together with Bullock, but it seems other reports are claiming Reeves was seen flirting with an ex-girlfriend. According to Bravo TV, Reeves ran into ex China Chow at a Los Angeles benefit, and the two were super friendly according to onlookers.

One person even claimed Chow was “hitting on Keanu hardcore” even though her boyfriend, Billy Idol, was allegedly right there. Another source added, “She had her arm on his shoulder and they were totally flirting. He was tossing his head back and laughing. At one point, he got so animated that he power walked away from her and then playfully came back.”

Is Reeves ready to make a move on his ex? We’re not really sure — but perhaps with the evidence from his most recent interviews and his interactions with Chow, he’s looking for love once again.
