Is Kirsten Dunst Married? She Reveals Whether She and ‘Breaking Bad’ Star Jesse Plemons Are Hitched
Kirsten Dunst is clearing up some confusion about her relationship status. The On Becoming a God in Central Florida star was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! On September 5, and while she was there, Kimmel referred to Jesse Plemons as her husband before quickly correcting himself and saying “fiancé.”
“Fiancé,” Dunst replied to Kimmel. “We’re not married yet.”

Dunst, 37, met Plemons, 31, on the set of FX’s Fargo in 2015. The pair played a husband and wife on that show, but they didn’t get together until a year later, after Dunst ended her relationship with Garret Hedlund. Soon after, the former co-stars were spotted kissing. However, Plenmons and Dunst didn’t confirm they were an item right away.
“I’ve got to keep things private a little bit,” the actress told Jimmy Fallon during an appearance on The Tonight Show. “We got together a year after [meeting.] We became really good friends first.”
She recently talked about her connection with Plemons in an interview with Porter magazine.
“He’s my favorite actor – the best I’ve ever worked with,” Dunst said. “I just knew he would be in my life forever. I didn’t know what capacity that would be at the time. When the show was over, I just missed him terribly. We didn’t get together until a year later. We were both smart enough that we were wondering if the connection was just because we were working together. But it was real.”
They’ve been engaged since 2017
Things got more serious between Plemons and Dunst at the end of 2017, when he proposed. But their wedding plans were put on hold since Dunst was pregnant. She gave birth to the couple’s first child, a boy named Ennis, in May 2018.
While Dunst’s mother has apparently been putting some pressure on the couple to get hitched, the Melancholia actress says they’re not in a big rush to make things official.
[W]e’re about as married as you can get,” she told Porter. “We have a kid together. My mom was like, ‘But when are you guys getting married?’ And I said, ‘Mom, I’m not going to get married when I’m pregnant. I want to have fun and have a drink. I mean, we’re paying for this wedding. I’m paying for the bar! I want to enjoy it.’”
Going back to work as a first-time mom was hard for Dunst
Dunst took some time off after she had her baby, but five months following Ennis’ birth, she was back in front of the camera. And like many new moms, she found returning to work challenging.
“I was like, ‘There’s no way I can go do a TV show,'” she told Glamour. “‘How can I do anything else but be a mom?’ I was like, ‘I don’t know if I can do this anymore.’”
But when the opportunity to star in On Becoming a God in Central Florida landed in her lap, she knew she couldn’t say no. She said she turned to family and friends to help her manage when she went back to work.
“You manage it, and people step in and help you,” she said. “It’s just so important to ask for that help.”
