Is MSNBC’s ‘The ReidOut’ Anchor Joy Reid Married?
MSNBC just got a whole lot better, thanks to Joy Reid. Who better to replace Chris Matthews in the 7 p.m. time slot? Matthews was removed from the network after having to face the #MeToo music. He was accused of making “inappropriate comments.” Although the truth behind that is still in question, his sudden departure from network television is telling.
Reid has put in her time on TV. She’s hosted two shows previously, so this is nothing new for her. It is something new for MSNBC, however. Joy’s new show brought a record number of viewers to the network.
Joy Reid’s first episode broke records
2.6 million people watched The ReidOut debut, reports PageSix. Matthews did have one episode of Hardball that beat that number, at 2.7 million, but it’s still impressive. Reid is the first Black female to have a show snag MSNBC’s coveted 7 p.m. spot.
It doesn’t hurt that her first episode also had an amazing slate of guests. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Presidential hopeful Joe Biden both appeared on the show. But Reid didn’t just have big politicians on her show. She also brought Black female mayors who are making headlines for standing up to President Trump. Keisha Lance Bottoms and Lori Lightfoot are the mayors of Atlanta and Chicago respectively. Both are rising political stars, who are popular among young people for their progressive views. It’s not surprising that Reid’s first episode attracted so many viewers. Sure, her guests were spectacular, but that’s something Reid should get credit for. She’s been in the industry long enough to know what viewers want. In fact, television is a family affair in the Reid household. Her husband Jason Reid is also in the industry, YourTango reports.
Jason Reid is in television also
According to his LinkedIn page, Jason’s most extensive television experience was at the Discovery Channel. His role was Senior Documentarian, and it seems like a lot of his most high profile projects revolved around the Latin American market. He did the Latin American promo for Toddlers in Tiaras, and branded the Latin American version of Animal Planet.
Although Jason did work for NBC briefly at the same time as his wife, it’s unclear whether they ever worked together on a network show. But the two do co-own a production company together. ImageLab Media Group was founded in 2005, where they work on post-production for both documentaries and feature films. Interestingly, ImageLab Media Group is not credited for working on Jason’s most successful film to date, according to IMDb.
Dirtbag won multiple awards in 2017, including the Banff Mountain Film Competition’s Best Feature Mountain Film and People’s Choice awards. Jason is credited as a writer on the project, a film about Fred Beckey, legendary mountain climber.
Joy and Jason Reid’s son is an actor
Joy and Jason Reid have been together for a long time, and they have three mostly grown-up children together. Since her children are 22, 21, and 19, Joy mostly lets them have their privacy. She doesn’t post much about them on social media, although she couldn’t help sharing a photo of her middle son. Jmar Reid is a New School graduate and aspiring actor. He starred in the college’s production of The Laramie Project and has done some modeling in the past as well.
Jmar’s mom thinks there are big things in his future, and with parents like his, she’s probably not wrong. In one of the rare instances that she’s posted something about her children, Joy captioned an Instagram photo of her son with “So proud of my very talented (and very tall) middle child @kinyemi12 (Jmar Reid – write that down) who just killed it in the @thenewschool production of #TheLaramieProject (@langlaramieproject). Amazing work by the entire cast, director and producers. Kudos all!”
