Who is Emma Kenney?
Kenney is most widely recognized for her role in the comedy-drama Shameless. She was also a regular on the reboot of Roseanne (and then The Connors), where she played Darlene’s daughter, Harris.
Kenney was raised in New Jersey. Her mother is a criminal defense lawyer and her father is a sports writer.
The young actress displayed an early talent for entertaining others. Her filmmaking expertise made her a finalist at the New Jersey International Film Festival at Rutgers University at just 9 years old.
In addition to Shameless and Roseanne, Kenney has had several small roles in short films and television movies. She appeared in the HBO series, Boardwalk Empire, and used her voice talents in the animated film, Epic.
Who did she play on ‘Shameless’?
Kenney’s most popular role is that of Debbie Gallagher on the popular Showtime original series, Shameless. The show follows the daily lives of the dysfunctional Gallagher family. The Gallaghers–a family of six kids and one perpetually drunk dad–live in the South Side of Chicago.
William H. Macy shines in his role as Frank Gallagher, patriarch of the deranged group. Frank is a raging alcoholic, spending what little money the family has on booze and spending most of his time passed out in various locations around the home. He really doesn’t provide much for his family, acting more like a troublesome child than a parent.
The children are left to raise themselves throughout the series, with the help of the oldest sister, Fiona. Kenney’s character, Debbie, is the third oldest child of the Gallagher siblings. Debbie is mature and intelligent, and might have the kindest heart of her siblings. In the beginning of the show, she is seen performing small kindnesses for her father, like putting a pillow under his head when he’s passed out.
Debbie craves the love and warmth of a regular family, which is apparent when she “kidnaps” a young boy from her neighborhood. She became jealous after seeing him playing outside with his dad and sister, but later returns the child after devising a plan to ensure she won’t be caught. Throughout the series, her maturity grows, and she eventually becomes the unofficial head of the household.
Is Emma Kenney single?
Like many celebrities, it appears that Kenney would rather keep her personal life out of the spotlight. However, we do know the young actress was dating actor Aramis Knight for a time. Her social media accounts showed cozy pictures of the two of them toward the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020.
Lately, however, fans have noticed the lack of photos and are assuming the two have called it quits. According to Reddit threads, fans saw an Instagram story that might indicate trouble in paradise for the young couple: “Deleted posts with him, not following him, posted a shady pic on her insta story…I’m not a mathematician but I think that equals not together.”
Another Redditor agreed, saying “Thinking about it now she hasn’t posted stuff with him for a while … Sad but they’re young so it’s a given I guess.”
