Is the ‘Sex and the City’ Revival Killing Off Mr. Big? Inside the Rumors Aidan Is Carrie’s ‘One True Love’
HBO Max recently confirmed a revival of Sex and the City is coming to the streaming platform. And the rumors are already swirling about what fans can expect to see when the revival – titled And Just Like That – premieres.
One of the biggest and most shocking rumors concerns Carrie Bradshaw’s husband. Will the revival kill off Mr. Big and reveal Aidan as Carrie’s “one true love?”
There is some info about the ‘Sex and the City’ revival that has been confirmed
Amid all of the rumors swirling about the Sex and the City revival, there is some information that HBO Max has confirmed to be true. The new series will see Sarah Jessica Parker return as Carrie, Cynthia Nixon as Miranda, and Kristin Davis as Charlotte. However, Kim Cattrall will not be reprising the role of Samantha.
And Just Like That will follow the three characters who are now in their 50s. But, it’s not yet known how they will handle Samantha’s absence. It also appears the story will head back to New York City after spending almost the entire second film in Abu Dhabi. The NYC setting is expected because filming is scheduled to begin in the Big Apple in the late spring.
It’s not yet clear exactly when the events of the series will take place. It could be set after both movie adaptations. But, as Entertainment Weekly points out, it could take place in an alternate timeline.
Jennifer Hudson has expressed interest in reprising her role from the first Sex and the City movie. But the only cast members confirmed so far are the three leading ladies. None of the actors who play the ladies’ husbands and friends have revealed if they are returning for the revival.
This includes Chris Noth (Mr. Big), David Egenberg (Steve Brady), Evan Handler (Harry Goldenblatt), Willie Garson (Stanford Blatch), and Mario Cantone (Anthony Marentino).
Will Carrie Bradshaw still be married to Mr. Big in the revival?
With none of the husbands confirming their return, a fan theory has emerged that posits none of the ladies will still be married in the revival. However, Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte all being single again in the revival would be a hard story to sell.
When fans last saw these characters at the close of Sex and the City 2, Carrie was married to Big, Charlotte to Harry, and Miranda to Steve. While the possibility of all three marriages being over might feel like a stretch, there is definitely the possibility that one of the marriages didn’t last.
When a fan asked Parker on Instagram if Mr. Big would be in the revival she replied, “Wait and see.” As Parade magazine points out, the script for the never-made Sex and the City 3 movie actually killed off Big via a heart attack in the shower.
This could be the route they take in the revival, considering that Noth is a regular on the CBS drama Equalizer. It’s possible he won’t be available.
Who was Carrie’s ‘one true love’ on ‘Sex and the City’?
Considering the script for the third movie and Noth’s busy schedule, a Sex and the City revival without Mr. Big is definitely a possibility. This theory was shared on the celebrity gossip Instagram page Deuxmoi. And it really got fans talking.
“This reboot will eliminate one of the main character’s love interests so that they can bring back their one true love. Not sure how the fans will feel about this tho,” the blind item read.
The fan reaction was strong on both sides. Many were happy about the idea that Aidan could be Carrie’s one true love because of her tumultuous relationship with Big. On the other side, fans were passionate about Carrie’s relationship with Big because she fought so hard for it.
Is it possible that Aidan (John Corbett) is Carrie’s one true love? Even though the Carrie and Aidan storyline seemingly wrapped in Sex and the City 2, it’s possible he could return once again. But the idea that he could be Carrie’s one true love doesn’t really fit with the original series.
When Carrie and Aidan were dating, it was clear that she didn’t want the “normal” life he wanted. The idea of getting married, having kids, and building a business wasn’t what Carrie wanted. She wouldn’t even wear her engagement ring.
As Parker told fans, they are just going to have to be patient and wait to see what happens when And Just Like That premieres.
HBO Max has not announced a release date for And Just Like That. All six seasons of Sex and the City are available on HBO Max. Sex and the City and Sex and the City 2 are available on Netflix.
