Queen Elizabeth is the longest-reigning monarch in Britain’s history, having been on the throne for an impressive 65 years. Often times, we hear rumors that her majesty is going to be stepping down and that her oldest son, Prince Charles, will take over as king even before her death. However, none of these rumors have ever been proven to be true — Queen Elizabeth remains in her position to this day.
It was several years ago that her husband, Prince Philip, retired from royal duties due to his age. At 98 years old, we can’t blame him for needing and wanting a break.
The queen herself is 93 years old, and each and every day, she impresses people with her continuing desire to do the best she can. However, something happened recently that made some royal fans think that the queen is not as on top of her game as she used to be. Is this incident proof that Queen Elizabeth needs to retire soon?
Prince Andrew has made headlines recently
Prince Andrew’s scandal had a significant effect on the royal family. According to The Telegraph, the son of the queen had ties to notorious pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The royals like to keep up a certain image, and they typically are not involved with those who are in the spotlight for the most negative reasons possible. Although the Duke of York has said in the past that he does not regret his friendship with Epstein, he hasn’t been carrying out as many royal duties as he did in the past.
Prince Andrew and Epstein first met all the way back in 1999, and have been photographed together on several occasions. In the aftermath of the scandal, the queen canceled Prince Andrew’s 60th birthday celebration. This is a pretty huge deal for anyone, and having to go through it in the public eye makes things significantly worse.

The Duke of York didn’t exactly sit back and ignore the entire situation. Although he denied any wrongdoing or inappropriate behavior, Prince Andrew sat down and spoke about the scandal in depth.
According to Town & Country, Prince Andrew spoke with BBC’s Newsnight regarding his relationship with Epstein, and some fans think that doing so made things even worse for the royals. He discussed details of the friendship, however, most notably, he did not speak about the victims of Epstein’s crimes.
Although Prince Andrew at first was happy about the interview, it did cause some problems regarding what he did and did not say. Rumors have constantly been swirling about the prince, and some are even speculating that he will be stripped of his royal titles.

So, what does all of this have to do with Prince Andrew’s mother, Queen Elizabeth? Well, in the past, she has run a pretty tight ship. She never allowed any of the royals to let their guard down, yet this seems to be the case with the latest royal scandal.
In fact, many people are even questioning as to whether she knew about Prince Andrew’s controversial interview in advance, and what she had to say about it. It very well may be that the beloved queen is just not as assertive as she used to be, and the Prince Andrew scandal may be proof that she should retire sometime soon.
