Is ‘WandaVision”s Ending Hinted at by ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ and Its Final Scene?
After eight weeks with Wanda Maximoff and Vision in her altered reality of Westview, NJ, WandaVision is finally coming to a close. The finale drops the morning of March 5, and there is still quite a bit the show has to answer. Odds are, it will end on some sort of cliffhanger that leads into the next movie that Wanda appears in, presumably Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But other than that, fans don’t know how she gets to that point nor what happens to all the other characters. But, there could be hints as far back as Spider-Man: Far From Home. [Spoiler alert: Spoilers ahead for WandaVision and predictions for the season finale based on the comics].
There are hints everywhere about the multiverse, fans just don’t know how the MCU is going to get there
For weeks, fans have been talking about the multiverse, nonstop. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t actually confirmed it yet in canon. There have been hints here and there, like the fact that Evan Peters’ Quicksilver showed up, although it’s still unclear if he that character from another dimension.
And, of course, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is definitely the title of the sequel to Doctor Strange’s movie. So it’s in the cards, but as stated before, how do we get there?
The commercial from Episode 7 teased the Nexus, which is a portal between dimensions in the comics. And Wanda/Scarlet Witch is a Nexus Being as well, meaning that she’s the focal point of her dimension and vital to the different universes as well. It really makes the commercial’s line about, “Because you’re not the center of the universe, or are you?” all the more important.
With little tidbits like that, that pesky multiverse seems to be getting closer and closer. It seems inevitable that the finale of WandaVision will confirm how the MCU is going to incorporate it once and for all. But Spider-Man: Far From Home might’ve already shown that it will for sure.
The final scene in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ might hint at a new reality in the multiverse for Peter Parker
Now, Quentin Beck/Mysterio did bring up the multiverse concept, but it was later revealed he was making it all up as part of his plot. So, this is in regards to the actual multiverse.
Looking at the canonical timeline, Avengers: Endgame happens in the fall of 2023, with Wanda creating her version of Westview and WandaVision in November of 2023. So Spider-Man: Far From Home happens in the summer of 2024.
If WandaVision does lead into this massive event that creates the multiverse or urges Doctor Strange to come and collect Wanda so he can help her or mentor her (or fight her), why is everything all fine and dandy in Peter Parker’s world? The last cataclysmic thing that he had to deal with was Tony Stark’s death and coming back from the Blip, not multiple dimensions converging or appearing.
Well, that might not actually be the case. At the very end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, J.K. Simmons’ J. Jonah Jameson appears on a jumbo screen and shows footage that exposes his secret identity as Spider-Man. It’s a massive reveal, but also raised a few eyebrows because Simmons played Jameson in the Sony Spider-Man films starring Tobey Maguire.
How could he play the same character in both properties’ versions of the film? Well, it was also announced that Jamie Foxx would reprise his role of Electro, and Alfred Molina as Doc Oc in Spider-Man: No Way Home. With all of these returning actors from Sony’s Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man movies, it raised more questions about why they’re returning now.
It’s possible that Peter Parker and all his friends — and his whole reality — were propelled into a new reality, one where these other characters exist.
This hints at Wanda creating a new reality or opening the multiverse in the ‘WandaVision’ season finale
In this reality, his identity was bound to be known, just like in the House of M comics. Considering WandaVision is taking on a lot of the qualities and brief outline of these comics, this is highly likely.
In this reality, Peter Parker isn’t living in secret as Spider-Man. Instead, he’s a celebrity and Gwen Stacy never died. This is the reality where he was in love with her, but lost her, so for her to be alive is his greatest wish. They live happily ever after and are married; he’s essentially in his own bliss. It backfires because he reaches an enlightenment of sort where he realizes that it’s not his true reality. But still, he had it for a bit.
So, what if White Vision pushes Wanda too much over the edge, or she loses the twins because they can’t leave the Hex, just like Vision can’t. This was enough to undo Wanda in the comics as well; so what if MCU Wanda is overcome with her grief again and breaks down whatever barrier there is to the multiverse and creates this new reality. Or mixes them all together somehow. And that’s why Peter is put into this timeline where everyone finally finds out his identity and there are these other characters from other properties or “universes.”
It’s, of course, unknown until the finale does come out. But it could explain why things are chill for Peter for eight months. And then maybe the third film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, will be about how there’s “no way home” from this alternative dimension or reality. Until the Doctor Strange sequel (which comes out after it) that is.
