Jack Nicholson Made Anjelica Huston Sob for ‘Three Days Straight’ Following a Rude Comment About Their Relationship
Jack Nicholson and Anjelica Huston were in a rocky relationship for 17 years. And while the actors shared some incredibly romantic moments, Huston admits that she was “often left in tears” throughout their courtship.
But one of the worst incidents in their relationship involved an inconsiderate comment from Nicholson that left Huston sobbing for three days straight.

The talented actors shared one of the most fascinating relationships in Hollywood. Nicholson would often shower Huston with fantastic gifts that left her charmed. Famously, he gave her a diamond-and-pearl bracelet that Frank Sinatra once gave to Ava Gardner. And according to InStyle, Nicholson also reportedly bought Huston an elephant because she had previously expressed her love for the creatures.
But no gift could keep Huston from eventually leaving Nicholson because he would often cheat on her. And after 17 years, it got to the point where she couldn’t take it anymore. Nicholson’s frequent habit of jumping into bed with other women had become too much for the Addams Family actor.
Yet regardless of his unfaithful ways, Nicholson considers Huston to be the great love of his life. “I certainly would say she’s the love of my life,” he told People Magazine. “I ask her to get married all the time. Sometimes she turns me down. Sometimes she says yes.”
But according to Huston’s recently published memoir, Nicholson was lying through his teeth in that interview. Because from her perspective, Nicholson hated the idea of marriage and would often mock it.

Despite Nicholson’s claims that he would ask Huston to marry him “all the time,” Huston’s memoir sings a totally different tune. Apparently, it was the other way around. Huston was the one who wanted to get married, yet Nicholson would mock the idea of Holy Matrimony.
According to The New York Post, the two were sitting in Jack’s living room one day, while watching a game show about marriage. The Shining actor quickly began to make fun of the program.
“Oh, little marriage,” he said. “Little tiny marriage game.”
“If you had any balls, you’d marry me,’” replied Huston.
“Marry you?” scoffed Nicholson. “Are you kidding me?”
According to Huston, she “sobbed for three days after that.”

Years following their brutal breakup, the two were reunited while starring alongside each other in the 1995 film, The Crossing Guard. Coincidentally, Huston played the role of his ex-wife. And while she admits that it was awkward at first for the two of them, it ended on a beautiful note.
The New York Post reports that the ex-couple went out for lunch on the final day of filming. During the lunch, Nicholson said, “You and me, Toots — we’re like Love in the Time of Cholera.”
Huston reveals that this was the best compliment he could give, because “That is one of my favorite books, by one of my favorite authors, about one of my favorite subjects — hopeless, enduring love.”
