Jada Pinkett Smith Reportedly Thinks Will Smith ‘Overreacted’ by Hitting Chris Rock

At the 2022 Oscars, Rock took the stage to present the award for Best Documentary Feature. In his speech, he made a joke about Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, comparing her to G.I. Jane. Pinkett Smith, who has spoken about her alopecia in the past, rolled her eyes in response. When Smith saw her reaction, he walked up to Rock and slapped the comedian in the face.
“Will Smith just smacked the s*** out of me,” Rock told the surprised audience. After sitting back down, Smith told Rock to “keep my wife’s name out your f***ing mouth.”
The moment prompted responses from the Academy, other actors, and various social media users.
A source says Jada Pinkett Smith believes that Will Smith overreacted
Just over a week after the ceremony, a source close to Pinkett Smith told Us Weekly that she is “not angry” with her husband. Still, she “wishes he didn’t” hit the comedian.
“It was in the heat of the moment and it was him overreacting,” the source said. “He knows that, she knows that. They’re in agreement that he overreacted.”
Those who know the couple do not believe the moment will impact their relationship.
“They stick together through thick and thin,” a source shared in a separate Us Weekly article. “They have been through a lot together and this is just another battle for them.”

At the Oscars, Pinkett Smith sported a close-cropped look, which she wears due to hair loss from alopecia. Alopecia is an autoimmune disorder that causes the hair to fall out.
“It was terrifying when it first started,” she said on a 2018 episode of Red Table Talk. “I was in the shower one day and then just handfuls of hair in my hands. And I was just like, ‘Oh my God, am I going bald?’ It was one of those times in my life when I was literally shaking with fear.”
She ultimately decided to shave her head after urging from her daughter, Willow.
“Willow made me do it because it was time to let go,” Pinkett Smith wrote on Instagram. “BUT…my 50s are ’bout to be divinely lit with this shed.”
