Jaime King Was Famous Long Before Becoming Taylor Swift’s Best Friend
Actor and former model Jaime King has been making waves for her divorce. Many associate her with her close friend, musician Taylor Swift. But King has had an impressive career. Here’s what you may know her from, and how her relationship with Swift has progressed.
Jaime King filed for divorce
On May 18, 2020, King filed for divorce from Kyle Newman, according to court records obtained by E! News. The couple began dating after meeting on the set of his 2009 film, Fanboys. They were married in November 2007. King and Newman have two children together, James Knight and Leo Thames.
In addition to the divorce, King has filed a temporary restraining order against Newman. While their living situation is unclear at this time, InTouch reports that King is living in Los Angeles while Newman is with their sons in Pennsylvania.
She was a member of Taylor Swift’s ‘girl squad’
Swifties (fans of Taylor Swift) know the actor for being a close friend of the singer’s. They were first spotted together in early 2014, attending various events during awards season. Newman then directed the music video for Swift’s single “Style.”
King surprisingly did not appear in Swift’s next video, the star-studded “Bad Blood.” Why? Likely because she was pregnant. By this time, the two were so close that King named Swift godmother of her second child. She told E! News that the singer is “the best friend, godmother, human being that a person could ask to be in your orbit.”
King’s career began as a model
Before King became an actress, she was a famous model. She got her start at just 14 years old and made it big when she appeared in a New York Times Magazine cover story, photographed by the legendary Nan Goldin. In an Instagram post in 2019, King said that “everything changed” after that shoot.
Soon after, King began acting under her model name, James King. She appeared in such films as Blow and Pearl Harbor under this name. King then landed memorable roles movies like Hot Chicks and Sin City, and appeared on TV series such as The O.C., now as Jaime King.

Today, King is known for her diverse portfolio. Those familiar with the horror genre may recognize her from slasher films like My Bloody Valentine 3D, Mother’s Day, and Barely Lethal. She also reprised her dual role as Goldie and Wendy in the sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.
However, others may be more familiar with her TV work. King portrayal Lemon Breeland in the CW drama series Hart of Dixie during its four-season run. At present, she stars in the Netflix zombie drama, Black Summer. Season 1 was released in April 2019, and season 2 was announced later than year.
