James Cameron Has Been Married to the Actor Who Played the ‘Titanic’ Granddaughter for Over 20 Years
James Cameron has delivered some of Hollywood’s most memorable movies. He is the creative mind behind projects like Avatar and Terminator. Pushing the boundaries of filmmaking, the now-67-year-old held the spot for the highest-grossing film of all time for years.
Still, one of Cameron’s most influential works is the 1997 blockbuster Titanic. While the four-time divorcé was on the movie set, he encountered his current wife, Suzy Amis. The two of them have been together for years and have a family.

According to James Cameron’s Titanic Fandom page, Suzy Amis used to work as a model and started her acting career in the ’80s. The Oklahoma City native made her debut in Fandango. Amis landed gigs in The Ballad of Little Jo and The Usual Suspects. Perhaps her most visible role occurred in Titanic, portraying Rose’s granddaughter.
Cameron met Amis while they filmed Titanic. Both felt a strong mutual attraction, according to The Guardian, but they didn’t get into a relationship right away due to the director’s rule. Cameron has a strict code he will “never break” about not dating actors while they’re working together in any capacity.
The Canadian director might have felt a strong desire to begin a romance with Amis. However, Cameron did not want to break the rule he created for himself. “As a matter of fact, Suzy and I, we were very attracted to each other when we first met [on Titanic],” he explained. “I think about 10 seconds after we were done filming, well, you know…”

In total, Cameron has been married five times. He wed his first wife, Sharon Williams, in 1978, but they divorced in 1984. Then, the filmmaker married Gale Anne Hurd in 1985 before ending things four years later.
In 1989, Cameron tied the knot with The Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow. However, the pair filed for a divorce in 1991. Before Cameron dated Amis, he was in a relationship with Terminator star Linda Hamilton. Their daughter was born in 1993, and the pair were married from 1997 to 1999. Not much later, Amis became his fifth and current wife.
Amis was also in a legal partnership before she met Cameron. She was married to actor Sam Robards from 1986 to 1994, and they have a son, Jasper.
Cameron and Amis wed on June 4, 2000, and they have three children together. Cameron’s marriage to Amis is his longest. The actor acknowledged that he tends to form an attraction to “strong independent women,” as he told the Guardian. He views Amis as a strong person who still needs him.

The young woman used to live in New York, but her parents began to experience health and financial issues as they struggled to care for their daughter after they separated.
Cameron and Amis’ daughter had been close friends with the girl for years prior, so the director and his wife formed a bond with her too. The teen had already been staying with the Cameron-Amis family since September 2019. Her parents allowed her to stay with the family and attend a private school.
In 2020, the Titanic stars filed to become the girl’s guardian. Reportedly, her parents agreed to Cameron and Amis’ efforts to become her guardians. They hope to ensure the teen thrives as she grows up.
