James Gunn and ‘Peacemaker’ Star Jennifer Holland Just Got Engaged
The first season of DC Extended Universe series Peacemaker concluded on Thursday, but that’s not the only reason the cast and crew have to celebrate. Series writer and director James Gunn and Peacemaker star Jennifer Holland revealed their engagement on Sunday, Feb. 20. Here’s what we know.
James Gunn and Jennifer Holland just got engaged
On Feb. 20, James Gunn posted a picture of longtime girlfriend Jennifer Holland that quickly threw the internet into a frenzy. In it, she’s holding a mug and sporting a diamond on her left ring finger. Gunn captioned it with a smiley face and heart, and fans pieced together that the two had gotten engaged.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed as much, noting Holland’s Instagram post the same day. Although it doesn’t mention or allude to the engagement like Gunn’s, it’s probably no coincidence she shared a shot of the two of them with the caption “Happiness.”
The comments on Instagram and Twitter flooded both celebrities with well wishes. Other Peacemaker stars like Lochlyn Munro and Steve Agee sent their congratulations, as did actors like David Dastmalchian, Karen Gillan, Viola Davis, and Ben Schwartz. Hundreds of fans also celebrated the news.
The pair grew ‘closer’ working on ‘Peacemaker’
James Gunn and Jennifer Holland’s engagement comes on the heels of Peacemaker Season 1’s conclusion. And it seems working on the DC series together proved a positive experience for both parties. Gunn wrote and directed the DC show, while Holland played Emilia Harcourt in it.
During an interview with People, Holland admitted their work had a beneficial impact on their relationship.
“It was great,” Holland said. “We had an amazing time. At the end of it, our relationship was closer for the experience. We got really lucky in that we work well together and it just works for us.”
The 35-year-old star also told People that her part in Peacemaker came as something of a surprise. Holland had a less prominent role in Gunn’s film The Suicide Squad, and she hadn’t expected to see her character again:
“I had no expectations that it was going to go any further than that. It was just, ‘I’m going to do this fun thing with James and have a great time for a couple of weeks.’ That’s kind of what we thought it was going to be. Then, the pandemic hit, James got bored while he was doing post-production on The Suicide Squad and he ended up writing this series.”
Of course, fans are thrilled that these two had the opportunity to work together again. And considering Peacemaker‘s Season 2 renewal, they might get to collaborate on a third DC project.
How long have James Gunn and Jennifer Holland been together?
With The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker coming out — and now their engagement — James Gunn and Jennifer Holland have had an exciting year. But when did the pair start dating? Their relationship goes back to 2015.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Holland met Gunn through Smallville star Michael Rosenbaum, who also has a role in Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Despite his Marvel fame, Holland hadn’t heard of the director. However, she told THR that she was interested after looking him up online.
“He seemed so incredibly charming in interviews,” she explained.
From there, the pair hit it off. They continued dating for six years, and now it seems they’re taking things to the next level. Congratulations, James Gunn and Jennifer Holland!
