Jamie Lee Curtis Says a Minor Plastic Surgery Led to Her 10-Year Opioid Addiction
Jamie Lee Curtis has long been one of Hollywood’s most iconic actors. The daughter of legendary performers Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, Curtis rose to fame as a scream queen in movies like the legendary Halloween.
The now-63-year-old became a star when she was very young. Throughout the course of her lengthy career, Curtis has been hailed for her ability to “keep it real.” The always-honest Curtis has been especially transparent in recent years, slamming plastic surgery and even claiming that a minor surgical procedure she had in the ’90 ultimately led to her opioid addiction.
What plastic surgery procedure did Jamie Lee Curtis admit to?
Curtis might be well known for playing confident characters. But behind the scenes, the actor has struggled with the same insecurities many others deal with. She even opted for plastic surgery. The mother of three revealed in 2002 that she chose to have a minor procedure early in her career.
According to Nicki Swift, Curtis said “Ten years ago, before anybody did that, I had fat taken from underneath my eyes because I was on a movie and I was puffy. … And I can remember the cameraman saying, ‘I can’t shoot her.'”
Curtis said she was “mortified” by the comment, claiming that she took his words to heart and decided to get an eye job to alleviate the puffiness the cameraman mentioned. She also admitted “I’ve had a little lipo[suction], I’ve had a little Botox…and you know what? None of it works.”

Sadly, the eye surgery that Curtis had ended up having a devastating effect on her personal life. As she told Fast Company in 2021, “I tried plastic surgery and it didn’t work. It got me addicted to Vicodin.” As reported by Today, Curtis revealed that her addiction lasted for a decade. “I was ahead of the curve of the opiate epidemic,” the actor said. “I had a 10-year run, stealing, conniving. No one knew. No one.”
Curtis went on to slam the idea of perfection promoted by the entertainment industry. The Santa Monica, California, native said, “The current trend of fillers and procedures, and this obsession with filtering, and the things that we do to adjust our appearance on Zoom are wiping out generations of beauty. Once you mess with your face, you can’t get it back.”
In her revealing interview, Curtis blamed social media on society’s obsession with appearance, saying it can be “very dangerous.”
Curtis is still a high-profile star
These days, Curtis is free of her addiction and proudly sober. As she told Today, “I’m sober 22 years … I can’t live without my sobriety. My sobriety has been the key to freedom, the freedom to be me, to not be looking in the mirror in the reflection and trying to see somebody else. I look in the mirror. I see myself. I accept myself.”
At the age of 63, Curtis is reprising the role of Laurie Strode in the Halloween franchise. In 2018, she played a disillusioned Laurie in Halloween. And she picked up where she left off in 2021’s Halloween Kills.
Fans will get to see Curtis back in the film Halloween Ends, which is set for release in October 2022. In addition to her work as an actor, Curtis is an advocate for several charitable causes. She occasionally writes for publications such as The Huffington Post.
