As Ozark creeps closer to its series finale, viewers are equally eager and terrified to see what happens to the Byrdes. The latest season finds Marty and Wendy working in a closer capacity with Omar Navarro. But that’s a double-edged sword, with the couple finding themselves facing threats from all directions.

In earlier interviews, show star Jason Bateman (Marty Byrde) spoke about the fourth and final season and teased that viewers will feel satisfied with its conclusion.

‘Ozark’ Season 4 concludes the story of the Byrde family

Ozark released the first half of its fourth season on Jan. 21, opening with a scene of the family driving in their van. They were discussing their upcoming move back to Chicago when a semi-truck suddenly crossed into their lane. Marty tried to avoid the crash by swerving, but the van flipped multiple times and rolled into a ditch. No movement could be seen inside their vehicle after it finally came to a stop.

The show then flashed back to find the Byrdes at Navarro’s home in Mexico. There, he communicated his intention to step back from the cartel and asked the Byrdes to help him achieve a legitimate life. It was a feat that they managed to pull off, only for Maya Miller to renege on the deal at the last minute and have Navarro arrested.

The Byrdes were basically warned to count their days unless they can fix this issue with Navarro. But even if they do, they’ll still have to deal with Navarro’s nephew Javi Elizonndro and the FBI.

Bateman on the ‘Ozark’ series finale

Lately, the Ozark cast and crew have kept their comments on the show to a minimum. But Bateman previously teased that it would have a “great” ending.

“I do know where everything is going to end,” he told IndieWire ahead of the start of production on Ozark Season 4. “The specifics leading up to it, I didn’t really grind [writer Chris Mundy] on. But I was interested in the big question he has the opportunity to answer: Are they going to get away with it, or are they going to pay a bill? What does he want to message to the audience about the consequences of what the Byrdes have done — or lack thereof?

“We had some great conversations about that, and he’s got really good ideas about that,” he continued. “Specifically, what kind of happens at the end of the last episode: I know, and it’s great.”

Bateman did not elaborate, but fans have plenty of ideas for how the show might end. Some are happier outcomes, such as their potential return to their old life in Chicago. Others are worse, including certain character deaths and arrests. Whatever the case, it sounds like viewers are in for a good time.
