Jason Momoa’s Role as a Love Interest in a Popular Sitcom May Surprise You
Jason Momoa is a leading man in Hollywood today but he hasn’t always been. The Aquaman star has been open about his long and sometimes financially strenuous road to becoming a lead character. One of his guest roles as a love interest was on the CW television show The Game. Momoa appeared in several episodes during the final season on the network.
Jason Momoa on ‘The Game’ season 3
Momoa joined the cast of The Game in 2009 as Roman, the buff love interest of Kelly Pitts. The relationship marked the first serious one for Kelly following her divorce from her cheap NFL champion ex-husband, Jason.
Roman may have been buff, but he lacked common sense. Initially, Kelly viewed him as a fling. Their relationship began to progress as she went into a depression over Jason moving on with another woman. Things began to fizzle however when Kelly became aware of Roman’s short temper.
During one scene, Roman becomes angry, scaring Kelly and her daughter Brittany. Jason saves the day when he enters the home and tackles Roman as Roman charges toward him. Kelly ends her relationship with Roman following the incident.
Momoa only appeared in a handful of episodes during season 3. The show continued for six additional seasons on BET and ends with the Pitts eventually reconciling.
Jason Momoa admits to financial struggles as an actor
Momoa’s role on The Game may have kept him afloat for some time but his opportunities began dwindling shortly after. He landed a recurring role on Game of Thrones in 2011 but his character was killed off. He later admitted to financial stress following the end of his tenure on the popular HBO series.

“I mean, we were starving after Game of Thrones,” he said during an interview with InStyle. “I couldn’t get work. It’s very challenging when you have babies and you’re completely in debt.”
Momoa took the financial hit hard as he and his wife, actor Lisa Bonet, had two small children at the time. It was also not Momoa’s first time having difficulty finding work. He had a drought following the cancellation of Baywatch Hawaii, revealing during the interview “I couldn’t even get an agent for three or four years,” he said.

Luckily for Momoa, his luck began to increase. In 2014, Momoa began appearing in a string of films, including Road to Paloma, Sugar Mountain, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. His role in Batman marked Momoa’s debut as Aquaman. He also reprised the character in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, which led to his lead in the 2018 film.

Momoa’s portrayal of Aquaman in the 2018 film catapulted him to superstardom. The film initially premiered in London in November 2018 and the following month in the US. Aquaman became a massive hit, grossing over $1.1 billion worldwide. It is the highest-grossing DCEU film – the highest-grossing film based on a DC Comics character.
An Aquaman spinoff is slated for release in 2022.
