Jay-Z Is Convinced Beyoncé Is His Soulmate
From the outside looking in, Jay-Z and Beyoncé appeared to be the picture-perfect couple. The pair have been together for nearly 20 years, and though they keep their personal lives to themselves, they’ve spoken openly about the ups and downs in their relationship and marriage in their music.
Despite their superstardom, it’s obvious that the pair have worked diligently to create a healthy union for themselves and their children. In fact, Jay-Z is convinced Beyoncé is his soulmate.
Jay-Z and Beyoncé began dating in the early 2000s
The power couple first met in 2000 when they were attending MTV’s Spring Break Festival. The singer was just 18 at the time, and she was there to perform with her group, Destiny’s Child. For his part, the Brooklyn-born rapper was 30 and had already released five albums.
Beyoncé was in a relationship at the time, but the following year, the pair connected at the 9/11 “Concert for New York City.” The Blueprint rapper asked a now-single Beyoncé for her number, and the pair began dating. However, until they wed in 2008, they rarely, if ever, spoke about their relationship.
When they finally went public with their relationship in 2004 they attended the BET Awards as a couple. Still, they refused to answer any personal questions about what was going on between them.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s relationship isn’t perfect
The musical couple has been married since 2008, and they have three children together, Blue, Sir, and Rumo. However, their relationship hasn’t been perfect. Back in 2005, the 4 singers and The Blueprint wordsmith split for an entire year.
While the reason for the split has never been confirmed, there were whispers that Jay-Z had been unfaithful. Also, as Beyoncé was garnering more acclaim and success as a solo artist, she focused more on her career and less on the relationship. All of this allegedly caused friction.
The couple’s marriage has also had its ups and downs, with 2014, in particular, being a rough patch. Their marriage issues began to show when Beyoncé’s sister, Solange Knowles, was seen attacking Jay-Z in an elevator after the Met Gala. Though the couple addressed nothing anything then, they both addressed the issues in their marriage and the rapper’s infidelity in their respective music—Beyoncé’s Lemonade in 2016 and Jay-Z’s 4:44 in 2017.
Jay-Z is convinced Beyoncé is his soul mate
Now, the couple is in a much better place because they were determined to work through their issues. Calling Beyoncé his “soulmate” in a 2018 interview on The Van Jones Show, Jay-Z said he was determined to fight for his marriage because his wife is “the person I love.”
“You can be in love, and you can love someone, but if you haven’t experienced love and you don’t understand it, and you don’t have the tools to move forward, then you’re going to have complications,” he explained. He added,
For us, we chose to fight for our love, for our family. To give our kids a different outcome. To break that cycle for Black men and women. We were never a celebrity couple, we were a couple who just happened to be celebrities. We are real people.
