Jay-Z and Beyoncé Are ‘Sending a Message’ on Diddy Case, Attorney Says
Federal agents arrested hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs in September 2024. Hollywood elites and fans alike knew there was trouble brewing for Combs following the Homeland Security raid. Now, Combs followers are eagerly awaiting to see what other celebrities get dragged into the case. Here’s what Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s lawyer said about how they’re “sending a message” with the Combs case following Piers Morgan’s commentary on the celebrity couple.
Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s lawyer talked about their silence in the Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs case
Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal battle is top of mind for many journalists covering celebrity news. British journalist Piers Morgan interviewed singer-songwriter Jaguar Wright, a “whistleblower” for Combs’ behavior, on his Uncensored YouTube show. Wright discussed Combs’ wrongdoings and also brought Shawn Corey Carter and Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter, better known as Jay-Z and Beyoncé, into the mix. Morgan later edited Wright’s allegations against Jay-Z and Beyoncé out of the interview.
Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s attorney, Alex Spiro, spoke on TMZ Live regarding Morgan’s interview. Spiro condemned Morgan for airing the interview, which alleged that Jay-Z and Beyoncé also had “victims” of their own.
“This is a pointed and formal accusation of something, and I felt it needed to be responded to,” Spiro said. The attorney explained how he sent Morgan an “ultimatum” that the journalist must remove the “false accusation” he published from Wright.
Spiro noted that Morgan “exploited” the “rumor mill” churning around Combs. This causes harm to the real victims in the Combs case.
The TMZ interviewers noted to Spiro that celebrities have been notably quiet surrounding the case. “As to the Carters, I can tell you that when they put their foot down on something, as they did here, they are sending a message,” Spiro continued. “And if they can’t stand up and make sure right from wrong, then who can? I’ve always believed that the truth will come out in courtrooms, and I’m sure the truth will come out here.”
A former prosecutor says Jay-Z and other celebrities will likely ‘assert their Fifth Amendment privilege’ in the Diddy case
Former prosecutor Neama Rahmani spoke to The U.S. Sun that celebrities close to Sean “Diddy” Combs will likely get subpoenaed. That means Jay-Z (and possibly Beyoncé) should expect to get served.
“Jay-Z and other celebrities can be subpoenaed, but they will almost certainly assert their Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination and refuse to testify,” the former prosecutor explained. And anyone who participated in Combs’ “freak-offs” should stay particularly fearful.
“People who participated in the sex acts should especially be afraid because they can also be charged with sex trafficking or prostitution, depending on whether they used threats or force against the victims,” Rahmani continued. “If Jay-Z is just a witness who didn’t participate in the sex acts, he may be subpoenaed to testify at trial.”
Federal agents seized ‘several terabytes of electronic data’ from the hip-hop mogul
Sean “Diddy” Combs’ “freak-offs” are at the center of his court case. Combs’ “freak-offs,” which were sex parties involving violence and coercion that allegedly included illegal drugs and prostitutes, happened after his parties. Combs filmed these sex parties, which are now in the hands of federal authorities. According to the Los Angeles Times, the feds possess “several terabytes of electronic data from Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.” They also possess 40 of his electronic devices and five cloud storage services. Investigators also plan to use “business records and physical evidence” to build their case.
So far, the investigation also includes over 50 witnesses and 300 warrants.
Combs pleaded not guilty to charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution.
