Jeffrey Dean Morgan (and Chris Evans) on the Dog He Adopted Over a Decade Ago While Filming ‘The Losers’
What’s sweeter than two former co-stars reconnecting? How about two former co-stars reconnecting over a dog? Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Supernatural, The Walking Dead) and Chris Evans (Captain America of the Marvel Cinematic Universe) chatted on Twitter about a shared experience involving a rescue dog in March 2020. And the story has a happy ending.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Chris Evans starred in ‘The Losers’
These two actors are well-versed in the world of films based on comic books. In between Evans’ Marvel stints (he originally portrayed Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four films) and immediately following Morgan’s turn in Watchmen, they starred in The Losers. Based on the Vertigo (a DC imprint) comic book, the film featured an all-star cast (including MCU players Zoe Saldana and Idris Elba).
In the film, Morgan and Evans portray Lieutenant Colonel Franklin Clay and Captain Jake Jensen, respectively. Both are members of a black-ops team who work Saldana’s Aisha to get revenge on the man who tried to have them killed. Though set in Bolivia, much of the filming was done in Puerto Rico.
Both Morgan and Evans have dogs
Despite often playing tough guys on screen, both Morgan and Evans are animal lovers. The story of how Evans adopted his dog, Dodger, while filming his 2017 movie Gifted is well known. He posts frequent images of himself with his rescue pup, calling himself “a dog lunatic.”
Morgan, meanwhile, has many animals. He lives on a farm with his wife, actress Hilarie Burton, and their two kids. Morgan often shares photos of his alpacas, chickens, donkeys, and, of course, dogs. It’s safe to say he is well-versed in the ways of numerous creatures.
Morgan shares the story of adopting Bandit
On March 18, 2020, Morgan shared an image of his dog, Bandit, sniffing Zeus, one of his alpacas. A follower asked him about Bandit’s breed, and Morgan replied, “A mutt mix?” He then joked, “Puerto Rico jungle dog!”
He continued, writing that while filming there “a pack of feral dogs followed the crew around,” and “hung out at basecamp.” Morgan added, “Chris Evans and I fed ’em all. Bandit stood out, he was a baby, and the other 30 dogs looked like adult pitbull [mixes]. He was a shy little furball.”
Evans chimes in
Morgan tagged Evans when writing the post, so his former co-star must have seen it and replied. “You scored with Bandit!” Evans wrote. This was years before he adopted Dodger but, obviously, the Marvel actor was a huge fan of canines even then.
“You remember you wanted to name him ‘Yahtzee,’ being that he was the luckiest pup on the island?” wrote back Morgan. He said that he “almost” took that suggestion. “Love ya brother,” added the actor. “Hope all is well and you’re stayin’ safe.” Maybe these two will be able to have a The Losers reunion with their respective rescue dogs someday.
