The Boys Season 3 marks Jensen Ackles’ debut as Soldier Boy, and the Prime Video series sees the actor reuniting with Supernatural creator Eric Kripke. He’s not the only star to move from the CW series to The Boys, and apparently, Kripke even wanted Jeffrey Dean Morgan to make an appearance. That didn’t pan out, but Morgan was still interested in the show — enough so that he reportedly tried getting Ackles to spill the beans about what was happening on set.

Jensen Ackles makes his debut as Soldier Boy in ‘The Boys’ Season 3

The Boys Season 3 is delivering plenty of exciting developments, including Jensen Ackles’ debut as Soldier Boy. The Supernatural star joins the cast as the original Supe. A satirized take on Captain America, Soldier Boy was essentially Homelander before Antony Starr’s character existed. He even lead a team of heroes called Payback for Vought.

Of course, Ackles isn’t the first Supernatural alum to join The Boys. Presidential candidate Robert Singer is played by Jim Beaver, who brought Bobby Singer to life in the CW series. With Eric Kripke helming The Boys, it’s probably no surprise familiar faces are showing up. Apparently, Kripke even wanted Jeffrey Dean Morgan to make an appearance.

Sadly, that didn’t work out as he hoped. Still, according to Ackles, Morgan made sure to ask him for spoilers since he couldn’t be on set himself.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan couldn’t join the cast of The Boys, but apparently, the actor remains interested in the series. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jensen Ackles admitted that his former co-star kept asking for details about The Boys Season 3.

“He kept texting me for updates [while I was] on set,” Ackles recalled. “He was like, ‘Give me spoilers.’ And I was like, ‘No, stop it.’ He’s very convincing.”

For those who haven’t seen Supernatural, Morgan played Ackles’ father in the series. Clearly, the two have maintained a good relationship with one another over the years — even if it’s not enough for Ackles to start spilling spoilers.

Kripke has also kept in touch with Morgan, attempting to get him to come on the show. But despite enthusiasm on both ends, it simply hasn’t happened yet.

Although Eric Kripke wants Jeffrey Dean Morgan on The Boys, a cameo isn’t looking likely. Despite the actor saying he’d join “in a heartbeat” on Twitter, Morgan’s schedule seems too packed. Given his role in The Walking Dead franchise, that’s probably no surprise. However, it is something of a bummer for Supernatural fans who hoped to see him and Jensen Ackles reunite in The Boys Season 3.

“I don’t know exactly what was in the works for that, but I know that there were some preliminary conversations of how and what and when and why that just didn’t work out with Jeff’s schedule,” Ackles told EW. “He’s a busy man, and everybody wants him to come on their show.”

It’s hard to say if Morgan will show up on The Boys in the future, but it would certainly be a welcome surprise. In the meantime, fans can catch Ackles’ performance in the latest outing.

The first three episodes of The Boys Season 3 are currently streaming on Prime Video.
