Did Jemele Hill From ‘Below Deck’ Have a Beef With Kate Chastain During Season 7?
Charter guest Jemele Hill from Below Deck had major tension with chief stew Kate Chastain during her season 7 bachelorette party.
From the beginning of the charter, Hill felt negative energy from Chastain and asked if they were getting on her nerves. This isn’t the first time Chastain received this type of feedback from a charter guest. Dean Slover also told Chastain she seemed agitated with them. Slover received a blanket fold in the shape of (penis) rocketship, which he actually thought was funny. But what happened between Hill and Chastain?

Hill said she and Chastain did not get off on the right foot. “Honestly, when we first got there and especially now that I’ve been able to see the previous episode, the energy was off,” she shared during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
But beyond her interactions with Chastain, Hill could tell she wasn’t vibing with the rest of the crew. Below Deck Season 7 was Chastain’s last season of the show. She was verbally and nearly physically attacked by bosun Ashton Pienaar. Plus, she and chef Kevin Dobson never got along. So I’m comparing how [Kevin is] acting, how everybody else is acting, and she was not kind of in line with everybody else,” Hill observed and shared on WWHL. “And I’m like, ‘Man, are we getting on her nerves?'”

The tension didn’t last long because Hill ended up apologizing to Chastain during a theme party on the boat. In a total reverse, Chastain then declared Hill and her friends to be her favorite charter of the season. They easily moved on but former chief stew Adrienne Gang tweeted during the episode that she was glad to see how Chastain’s actions as a “bully” finally came to light. Hill didn’t seem to agree.
But Hill’s mom thought her daughter went too easy on Chastain. She surprised Hill when she called in during the After Show. “I think that you weren’t hard enough on her because to piggyback on a previous tweet, it’s like Kate’s attitude is totally gone in a negative way,” Denise Hill said. “Because her attitude was one like she was doing you all a favor to be on the yacht. You spent all that money to be on the yacht. And she’s been that way with several guests.”
Did they ever squash beef?
“You know, mom that’s why you’re my ride or die!” Hill said to her mother. And while Hill laughed she also cringed the entire time. Especially when her mother said that nobody can call her daughter a b*tch and get away with it. But needless to say, Hill and Chastain are in a good place.
“Jemele and her friends are the only charter guests I’d consider coming out of retirement for. They were so fun!” Chastain shared on Twitter.
And to show her appreciation, Chastain made Hill her own “blanket fold” which Hill shared on Twitter. “#D**kGate during my appearance on #BelowDeck became a thing. But here’s what the cameras didn’t show: The lovely @Kate_Chastain placed a d**k on my bed before the penis cake debacle. Maybe the tension between Kate and Kevin was cause hers was bigger? #JustJokes,” Hill tweeted during the episode along with the photo. Hill added, “That was nothing but an appreciation tweet.”
Hill returns to the show, this time for the last charter on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 6. The fun kicks off on Monday at 9/8c on Bravo.
