Jennifer Aniston Once Opened up About That Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie Photo Shoot
Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt’s split is one of the most memorable celebrity divorces in recent history. One of Hollywood’s most famous couples, the two walked many a red carpet before their marriage ended. The public’s fascination with them and the details surrounding their split, namely Pitt’s connection to Angelina Jolie, only grew when the Ocean’s Eleven actor posed for a photo shoot with Jolie in 2005.
A brief history of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston’s relationship
Pitt and Aniston go way back. Set up by their agents, they made their red carpet debut as a couple when they attended the 1999 Emmy Awards together. They’d met each other years earlier but only started dating in 1998 after being set up by their agents.
They eventually got married in July 2000. Aniston and Pitt had a lavish wedding in Malibu, California, complete with fireworks and tents for privacy from the paparazzi. For the next few years, they’d continue walking red carpets together. Pitt even guest-starred on an episode of Friends.
In a joint statement released in January 2005 — a year after sparks flew between Pitt and Jolie aka “Brangelina,” on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith — he and Aniston announced the end of their marriage. It would be finalized in October 2005.
Jennifer Aniston called the timing of the photo shoot ‘odd’
A few months after Pitt and Aniston’s split, the Ad Astra star teamed up with Jolie for a photo shoot. At the time, they hadn’t confirmed their relationship which only fueled rumors they were a couple, and, supposedly, the reason for Pitt and Aniston’s divorce.
Pitt and Jolie posed for a series of photos titled “Domestic Bliss” which would span 60 pages of W Magazine. Pitt collaborated with photographer Steven Klein on the project and, according to Vanity Fair, retained the international rights.
When the publication presented that fact to Aniston during a 2006 interview, she opened up about the photo shoot. She shared what she thought was going through Pitt’s head at the time.
“Is it odd timing? Yeah. But it’s not my life,” she said. “He makes his choices. He can do—whatever. We’re divorced, and you can see why.”
Aniston continued, saying her ex probably didn’t do it to be mean to her.
“I can also imagine Brad having absolutely no clue why people would be appalled by it,” she added. “Brad is not mean-spirited; he would never intentionally try to rub something in my face. In hindsight, I can see him going, ‘Oh—I can see that that was inconsiderate.’ But I know Brad. Brad would say, ‘That’s art!’”
She also famously described Pitt as having “a sensitivity chip that’s missing.”
Several months after their “Domestic Bliss” photo shoot, Jolie and Pitt would confirm their relationship.
Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt have had other high-profile relationships
Aniston and Pitt have both had at least one major relationship since their divorce. Pitt married Jolie in September 2014 and they have six children together. They announced their split in 2016 but Jolie and Pitt’s divorce settlement hasn’t been finalized.
Meanwhile, Aniston married Justin Theroux in August 2015. The two began dating in May 2011 but their marriage didn’t last. They announced their sudden split in 2018.
