Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were Hollywood’s “it” couple back in the early 2000s. Aniston was taking in over $700,000 per episode of Friends, while Pitt was out there making Ocean’s 11, Troy, and Snatched. The two were married from 2000 until 2005 — the year Pitt met Jolie on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Pitt and Aniston seemed like the perfect couple for half a decade. They even remain friends today (as evidenced by their highly-publicized interaction at the 2020 SAG Awards). Yet, what went on behind closed doors will always remain a bit of a mystery.

During an interview with W Magazine back in 2003, while Pitt and Aniston were still together, the Friends star discussed her marriage. She also commented on the idea that Pitt was the “love of her life,” and whether or not she believes such phrases accurately reflect love and romance in reality.

Jennifer Aniston describes the type of love she shared with Brad Pitt

When asked how it felt to find the love of her life, Aniston’s answer was not as sunshine-and-rainbows-based as many would have expected of a recent bride. She said:

“Is he the love of my life? I think you’re always sort of wondering, ‘Are you the love of my life?’ I mean, I don’t know, I’ve never been someone who says, ‘He’s the love of my life.’ He’s certainly a big love in my life…And I know that we have something special, especially in all this chaos. In this nutty, brilliant, wonderful, hard business that we have, it’s nice to have somebody who’s anchored and knows you, really knows all of you…

Inside Aniston’s romantic life after Pitt

Aniston suggests that she believes people always wonder if they are with “the one.” While she and Pitt had a deep connection — and could relate to the lifestyle and hurdles the other person was facing as a result of celebrity, were they meant to be married?

Based on Aniston’s answer, it seems that she loved Pitt greatly, but was the type of love she felt enough? The two divorced in 2005, and Pitt entered a relationship with Jolie. Following her relationship with Pitt, Aniston went on to date a few well-known stars. She was later connected to Vince Vaugh (though they tried to keep their romance private) and John Mayer.

Aniston later married Justin Theroux in 2015; the two were married for two years until calling it quits in 2017. Today, Aniston is happily single.
