The couple met on the set of Pearl Harbor and subsequently fell in love while making Daredevil in 2002. However, Affleck proposed to Jennifer Lopez that same year, and the two seemed more in love than ever. Lopez and Affleck’s relationship didn’t work, and they broke up in 2004. Garner and Affleck started dating in 2004 and tied the knot in June 2005.
Garner and Affleck’s divorce surprised Hollywood elites, as the couple appeared to have a solid romance. Affleck told Howard Stern that he needed to divorce Garner because he felt “trapped” in his marriage, which led him to drink alcohol excessively. Affleck mentioned that he’d probably still drink if he stayed with Garner.
“Jen isn’t particularly happy with Ben’s wording on the subject of why they divorced,” a source told In Touch Weekly in 2021. “He gave an interview saying he felt ‘trapped’ in the marriage. Jen wouldn’t have used that phrase or even opened up publicly like that. It was disrespectful.”
The source added that Affleck’s comments about drinking excessively were “kind of a slap in the face to Jen and their kids.”

Affleck moved from the $60 million home he shares with Lopez into a $100,000 monthly that Garner has visited.
So, how does Garner feel about Affleck and Lopez? A source told Us Weekly that she wants Affleck to keep fighting for his current marriage.
“Jennifer Garner is encouraging Ben to work on his marriage to Jen,” the source shared. “She fully supports their relationship and wants nothing more than for him to be happy.”
Some alleged insiders claimed that Lopez doesn’t like her husband hanging out with his ex-wife. However, contrary reports suggest that Lopez, Garner, and Affleck get along quite well.
“Jennifer, Jen, and Ben have had a great relationship for quite some time now,” a source told Us Weekly in January 2024. “They know there are going to be plenty of times they’ll all be attending the same events together, whether that’s school performances, sports, etc.”
Because Affleck shares three kids with Garner and Lopez has twins, the three parents hoped to “foster” relationships between the kids. “They have a mutual respect for each other as parents and know how well all their kids get along,” the source continued. “They want to foster and nurture those relationships and will do whatever it takes to show their support.”

Several reports suggest Garner sees a future with Miller, and he’s also supportive of Garner helping her ex, Ben Affleck, in his time of need.
A source told Entertainment Tonight in May 2024 that Garner might be ready to settle down again with another marriage. “Jennifer Garner and John Miller are doing well, and they have talked about escalating their relationship to the next level,” the source claimed.
