Jennifer Garner Said Ben Affleck Took Her ‘Under His Wing’ Before They Started Dating
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez can’t escape the media in 2024. However, before Affleck tied the knot with Lopez, he was in love with Jennifer Garner. Garner and Affleck were married for a decade before ending their marriage, and they remain close to this day. Back when the actors fell in love, Garner said Affleck took her “under his wing” while shooting a movie together.

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck met on the set of Pearl Harbor in 2000. However, they didn’t fall in love at first. Affleck pursued a relationship with Jennifer Lopez after meeting on the set of Gigli, and they got engaged in 2002. By 2004, the couple ended their romance, and Affleck quickly fell in love with Garner while filming Daredevil. Garner and Affleck tied the knot in 2005 and separated in 2015 before finalizing their divorce in 2018.
In 2003, Garner gushed about working with Affleck on Daredevil. She then told E! News why Affleck makes such a great lead.
“You know, on the set, he’s always looking out for the little guy. I mean, he definitely took me under his wing and said, ‘It’ll be OK, Jen.’ You know, it was my first big role in a big movie, and he looked after me.”
“Ben does such a good job,” Garner continued with a bashful smile. “He’s such a superhero, that little Ben.”
In interviews about their marriage, Affleck confirmed that he and Garner fell in love while filming the superhero flick. He also joked about how their dynamic in the film came into play in their real lives. “By the way, she won most of the fights in the movie,” he said, according to Us Weekly, “which was a pretty good predictor of what would happen down the road — my wife, holding swords and beating the living s*** out of me.”

Jennifer Garner had no problem promoting Daredevil in the early 2000s, especially considering her excitement surrounding her newfound love with Ben Affleck. She told Conan O’Brien that she found the movie to be “really romantic.”
“Daredevil is a chick flick,” Garner joked while visiting Late Night With Conan O’Brien. “People don’t know, but they think, chick flick, Ya-Ya Sisterhood, perhaps, or Practical Magic. But no. It’s Daredevil.“
“Daredevil is a really romantic movie,” Garner continued, getting more serious in her language. “I think the girls will have to drag the guys to see Daredevil. No, actually, it’s really romantic. The cool thing about it for women is that Elektra is Daredevil’s equal. She’s not some damsel in distress.”

Insiders claimed that Garner was offering Affleck guidance, as she wants the best for him and needs him to remain the most capable father to their three kids as possible.
“She wants him happy and healthy so he can be the best dad possible,” a source told People in May 2024.
