Jennifer Garner Once Said She’d Lose Ben Affleck Every 15 Minutes Until They Saw a Hypnotist
Ben Affleck was willing to make a few personal sacrifices for the sake of his marriage with Jennifer Garner. One such sacrifice required the intervention of a hypnotist to help make happen.
Jennifer Garner once shared it was painful for Ben Affleck to give up this 1 habit
Both Garner and Affleck seemed more than happy with their marriage not too long after exchanging vows. The two made their relationship official in 2004, just a couple of years after they reunited on the set of 2003’s Daredevil. They later got married in 2005, and gave birth to their first child months later.
Initially, not even Garner could pinpoint what made marriage work so well. But she theorized that their similar personalities and compassion made for a strong relationship.
“One thing that makes it not not work is that we’re both pretty nice,” Garner said in a 2007 interview with Marie Claire. “He’s not someone who’s ever going to blow up on anyone. What I mean is, if he’s ever angry with me, he doesn’t act out on it in a weird way or yell at me. And I am the same. So we can handle conflict in a very loving and adult way.”
Still, there were certain sacrifices Affleck agreed to make for his and Garner’s family that he found especially difficult to give up. Affleck admitted that he was a pretty committed smoker back in the day. But the upcoming birth of his child served as motivation to put the cigarette packs down for good. In order to do this, however, Affleck had to see a hypnotist.
“You sit in, like, a Barker lounger and he [hypnotist] sips water and just talks to you for an hour, and explains how nicotine is poison,” Affleck once told Oprah (via Irish Examiner). “All of a sudden, you thought’ ‘This is asinine that I’ve been doing this to myself for all these years.’ My last cigarette was on November 10, 2005… I feel a huge difference in my health now that I don’t smoke. I feel like I’m in better shape than I was five years ago.”
Garner was especially happy to reap the benefits of Affleck’s sacrifice at the time. After Affleck’s experience with the hypnotist, he was more present than ever before.
“I so admire him, because it was so painful. But he is sick so much less often, and I don’t lose him every 15 minutes while he wanders around outside. He smells great. It’s a huge gift that he gave me — and our daughter as well. I probably annoy him, I celebrate it so much,” Garner said.
Jennifer Garner and Jennifer Lopez both have differing views on Ben Affleck’s smoking habit according to insider
A lot happened in the almost two decades since Affleck saw the hypnotist. Affleck and Garner would later divorce. And amid their relationship troubles, Affleck would have an intense battle with alcoholism, which Garner would help him through even after their separation. After their divorce, a much sober, healthier Affleck reunited with Lopez. But according to sources, it appears that Affleck carried his smoking habits over to his new relationship with the singer.
But the insider alleged that Lopez didn’t mind Affleck’s smoking habit all that much. Whereas Garner still took issue with it.
“Jen and J.Lo have very different views on it,” the source once told Ok!. “J.Lo is grateful Ben is sober, and if he needs to smoke to get through the day, it’s better than falling off the wagon.”
Meanwhile, the source claimed Garner still found Affleck’s smoking habit disgusting. She also didn’t like the idea of Affleck smoking around her children.
“Jen’s been very good about not poking her nose into Ben’s affairs,” the insider claimed. “But this is putting her patience to the test.”
However, if these claims are true, Lopez has confided that she and Garner have been very supportive of each other during this transition. In an interview with Vogue, Lopez called Garner “an amazing co-parent, and they work really well together.”
