Being a newly single celebrity comes with both perks and disadvantages. After splitting from Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner found this out the hard way after a bizarre encounter in an airplane bathroom line.

Jennifer Garner was ‘floored’ after a bathroom encounter with a stranger

In a 2016 interview with Vanity Fair, Jennifer Garner revealed that dating after divorce was more difficult than she imagined. She recalled one unlikely encounter which left her “floored.”

“We were waiting for the bathroom at JetBlue,” Garner began. “And I was so floored. I had to remind myself that this was something that could happen.”

She continued that a man said, “Could I take you for a cup of coffee?’ And I was like, ‘No! You may not take me for a cup of coffee, sir.’ And then I said, ‘But thanks for asking.’”

Garner admitted that dating at that time seemed different from the methods she was familiar with. However, she opened herself up to the possibility of another relationship.

“I guess. I don’t know. It’s just that [from] everyone I know that is dating, it seems, well…. Men don’t call anymore. I want flowers; I don’t want to text. What does that make me? What kind of dinosaur am I?” she joked.

Jennifer Garner needed to end the ‘pity’ stage before dating after Ben Affleck split

Jennifer Garner was married to Ben Affleck for a decade. Together, they raised three children.

Though their romance ended in divorce, the couple remained committed to their children’s happiness. They realized early on that they needed to have a supportive relationship for their children’s sake.

However, that didn’t mean Garner didn’t have moments of “pity” as her relationship drama played out in the public eye. She relied on the comforts of childhood to create a sense of stability in her life.

“When the earth shakes, you go to what you know from childhood. All of a sudden, I’m sitting down at the piano. I went back to church. I sat down and wrote bad poetry all day because I was so sad,” she revealed.

Garner continued, “I needed a dance class; it reminded me of my fight scenes [in Alias] and how I missed that. I feel the need to be physical, and I feel the need to punch someone. You know what I look forward to?

I look forward to getting past the pity stage. I look forward to just having a sense of humor.”

She told CBS Sunday Morning that navigating that season of life was rough. Garner admitted the “stress” of being under the watch of the paparazzi made her want to “cry.” The actor added that going through her split from Affleck publicly wasn’t hard, “what’s hard is going through it.”

‘You have to have two people to dance a marriage,’ Garner says
