Yesterday, the famed gossip column shared a story suggesting Hudson will return for the reboot. Fans, however, shouldn’t be so quick to rejoice. According to the rumor, the Louise that fans remember might not be the Louise they see in the reboot.
Hudson famously portrayed Carrie Bradshaw’s assistant, Louise from St. Louis, in Sex and the City: The Movie. Carrie credited Louise for bringing her back to life after she was jilted at the altar by Mr. Big. Louise famously left New York to return home after she found her “love.” The character was not mentioned in Sex and the City 2 or in And Just Like That…

While HBO Max remains quiet about Hudson’s potential return to the franchise, the Dreamgirls star has been open about her desire to return to the role for years. Back in 2014, when rumors about Sex and the City 3 swirled, Hudson sat down for an interview with Dish Nation. While she wasn’t sure if the third movie was actually in the works, she said she was interested in reprising her role as Louise from St. Louis.
Shortly after the reboot announcement, she again threw her hat into the ring. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in January 2021, Hudson said she was down to reprise her role. She didn’t show up in season 1, but that doesn’t mean fans should count her out. She is one of several former cast members fans would like to see back, but not if the writers are going to ruin her character.

While several Redditors were excited about the prospect of her return, a majority were concerned that sweet Louise would be ruined based on the gossip post. The suggestion that the good-natured character fans first meet would be “gone gone” seems to be causing a bit of anxiety.
To be fair, we would need to assume something drastic happened to Louise if she’s returned to New York City. In Sex and the City: The Movie, Louise moved back to St. Louis when her longtime beau, Will, finally proposed. Fans walked away from the movie assuming she was happily married. It has, however, been 15 years. Anything could have happened.
Fans will likely be waiting a while to find out if Louise from St. Louis will be showing up in the series and what happened to her in the years since her last appearance. While HBO Max has greenlit a second season of And Just Like That… the cast has not yet begun filming. No release date has been announced.
