For years, Jennifer Lopez has dealt with rumors that label her as high-maintenance and rude. Lopez has said these descriptors are extremely unfair to her, but she has admitted that she has at least one rude habit. She shared a conversational tendency she could work on

Jennifer Lopez admitted she could be rude while in conversation with others

Lopez has said that while media outlets have labeled her a “diva,” she’s a normal, down-to-earth person when she isn’t in the spotlight.

“I love to clean up. I can’t have a room unclean,” she told Cosmopolitan in 2005. “And I cook — I made pork chops last night. My favorite food is fried chicken cutlets, and I make those too.”

Still, she admitted that she has one rude quality. When others are speaking, she said she struggles to give them her full attention.

“I’m bad at a ton of things,” she said, adding, “I’m bad at sitting still. I’m bad at basketball. My worst habit is that while people are talking, I will already be thinking three other things.”

Lopez said it is noticeable enough that sometimes people call her out on it.

“It’s rude,” she said. “Sometimes if the person is very in tune and they notice, they’re like ‘Where are you right now?’”

She said the ‘diva’ label she has received is unfair

Though Lopez said she can be rude, she didn’t think she was any worse than the average person. Because of this, she thought the “diva” label was unfair to her.

“I always felt that was unfair,” she said. “It might be because I have nice stuff. I came from virtually nothing, so there was a time when I was like ‘Oh my God, I can have that car or I can have that coat.’ I don’t think anybody in my position wouldn’t have done the same thing.”

She said she was actively in search of a simpler life.

“But you get to a point where you want to strip down,” she said. “Not that I won’t have a nice bag, but I’m going to sell that big museum-type house and get a nice cozy house, and I’m going to have one car and trade the others in. I want to go back to something simpler.”

People defended Jennifer Lopez after she was labeled rude for her behavior during a recent interview

Years after this interview, people are still examining Lopez’s personality. At the 2024 Met Gala, Lopez sparked controversy following an interaction with a reporter. When a reporter asked who designed her dress, Lopez responded “Schiaparelli,” before walking away.

While some viewers believed this was rude, others defended Lopez. Many believed the backlash was overblown.

“Lol, I know she’s notorious for being rude to non rich/famous people, but this is a reach,” one Reddit user wrote. “I’m not really seeing anything offensive here.”

Others believed Lopez had done the best she could given the circumstances.

“So she was a bit blunt with her answer,” another person wrote. “Between the shouting of who knows how many photogs and reporters and the onslaught of camera flashes — not to mention trying to navigate the staircase to the gala, which we’ve seen gives more than a few people pause depending on their wardrobe, they’re lucky they got a response at all. You mean, Jennifer Lopez can’t unicycle and juggle while blindfolded? Huh. Can you?”
