Jennifer Lopez has been in many movies over the years, some more successful than others. In general, though, she takes pride in her acting work and has spoken openly about her skill. This doesn’t mean that she isn’t critical about some of her roles, though. Lopez said that there was one project she wanted to avoid watching again. She admitted that she did not put forward her best performance.

Jennifer Lopez did not want 1 movie she made to air on television

In the early stages of her career, Lopez said she had full responsibility over the projects she chose, both good and bad.

“This is show business,” she told Vanity Fair in 2001. “You’ve got to know the business you’re in…. I’ve always been in charge of every move I made. Nobody ever said, ‘This is a good idea, Jennifer.’ Like I’m that stupid and was just exploited. Nobody ever forced me into doing anything. I’m just not that kind of person.”

She said this attitude helped her avoid having regrets about any of her projects. When she heard one of her films was going to air on television, she initially cringed but then remembered how excited she had been to book it.

“I did this thing called Nurses on the Line: The Crash of Flight 7 in Mexico that was the shiniest movie-of-the-week you ever saw,” she said. “And it goes on TV now because I’m more popular, right? And at first I was like, ‘Oh, s***! God, no!’ But you know what? The day I got that part, I still remember. I still remember how happy I was and I still remember how much I made. And I still remember that it was my first movie-of-the-week.”

Still, she wasn’t thrilled with her performance in the movie.

“So, you know, I don’t regret anything,” she said. “And I sucked in it, by the way. I sucked.”

She quickly grew more confident in her skills as an actor

Nurses on the Line: The Crash of Flight 7 came out in 1993. By 1998, Lopez had far more confidence in her skill as an actor. She had picked up more prestigious roles by this point and had cemented herself as a star. She said her success was a direct result of her talent.

“I’m the best,” Lopez told Movieline. “I feel I can do anything — any kind of role. I’m fearless.”

She said she was open to constant improvement, which would give her an edge over other stars.

“I work really hard,” Lopez said. “I’ll just get better as I go along because I’m open to getting better. If you have the goods, there’s nothing to be afraid of. If somebody doesn’t have the goods, they’re insecure. I don’t have that problem. I’m not the best actress that ever lived, but I know I’m pretty good.”

Jennifer Lopez said she was prouder of her work on movies than music

Lopez built a music career alongside her acting work. While she feels confident as an actor, she doesn’t feel as strongly about her abilities as a vocalist.

“I think I’m a really great performer,” she told Vanity Fair in 2011, adding, “I think I’m a really great actress. I feel confident in those things — that’s a better way to say it … I’m not as gifted a vocalist as some of the girls that are out there, but I know I communicate. When I think of great vocalists, I think of Marc [Anthony], of Luther Vandross, of Whitney Houston. But Marc has helped me a lot with this; he always said I had a beautiful voice and that it was better than I thought it was.”

Lopez continues to balance both art forms.
