Jennifer Lopez ‘Really Badly’ Wanted to Make Marriage to Ben Affleck Work, but She Doesn’t Want to Get Back Together
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have yet to comment on the state of their relationship, but according to most sources, they are headed toward divorce. The couple, who wed in 2022, have been spotted without their wedding rings, and have been spending time apart. While they reportedly don’t anticipate getting back together, Lopez reportedly wanted to make their marriage work.
Jennifer Lopez reportedly wanted to make her marriage to Ben Affleck work
For the past several months, rumors have flown about the state of Affleck and Lopez’s relationship. They reportedly no longer live under the same roof and listed their Beverly Hills mansion for sale this July. While some fans are still hopeful that the couple will work things out, a source said they have no plans to do so.
“They are not getting back together,” a source told Fox News. “They have no plans to announce that they aren’t a couple right now.”
This doesn’t mean they didn’t want the relationship to work out, though. Lopez in particular reportedly wished things would have gone differently.
“JLo wanted to make it work really badly, he’s just a different person to her now,” the source continued.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have not been spending time together in public
This summer, Lopez and Affleck have been spending a great deal of time apart. Affleck spent July 4th weekend with his children in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Lopez was on the opposite side of the country in the Hamptons. They also spent her 55th birthday apart.
Lopez threw a Bridgerton-themed party in the Hamptons, and Affleck was notably not in attendance. This comes after a vacation Lopez took to Italy in June.
This is the second time the couple has split
Lopez and Affleck’s reported marital woes come two decades after they broke up for the first time. The couple met on the set of their film Gigli and they got together following Lopez’s split from her second husband, Cris Judd.
Lopez and Affleck postponed their wedding in 2003. They cited the intensity of the media attention as the reason.
“Due to the excessive media attention surrounding our wedding, we have decided to postpone the date,” the couple said in a statement, per Harper’s Bazaar. “When we found ourselves seriously contemplating hiring three separate ‘decoy brides’ at three different locations, we realized that something was awry. We began to feel that the spirit of what should have been the happiest day of our lives could be compromised. We felt what should have been a joyful and sacred day could be spoiled for us, our families and our friends.”
In January of 2004, the couple called off their wedding for good. They publicly announced that they were going their separate ways.
“I am confirming the report that Jennifer Lopez has ended her engagement to Ben Affleck,” Lopez’s representative said. “At this difficult time, we ask that you respect her privacy.”
