‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ featured a Jennifer Lopez-themed runway for season 14
A new set of queens sashayed into the RuPaul’s Drag Race Werk Room, including the House of Colby fashion icon herself, Kerri Colby. This contestant appeared on several episodes of the reality series, with last week’s episode featuring a surprise appearance from Lopez.
In honor of the legendary artist, RuPaul announced that the runway theme for the week was “Night of 1000 Jennifer Lopez.” Not only was Kerri Colby’s look inspired by Lopez, but the dress was the same outfit worn by Lopez at the 2019 Versace fashion show.
(The 2019 event was the second time Lopez stunned in the outfit. The artist wore a similar piece for the 2000 Grammy Awards.) The drag performer mentioned this dress on the runway and later on social media.
“It is the same dress, so it was a feature moment that was a very limited quantity made for Versace that year. I happened to be able to get my hands on the same exact garment,” Kerri Colby said during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “Honey, you just gotta make sure you get the right type of friends so when these crazy moments come around, you’ve got to hit them up!”

After this episode premiered, Lopez shared an Instagram story of Kerri Colby in the iconic green dress, also tweeting about the iconic look. Of course, Kerri Colby reposted the Instagram story, earning a direct message from the artist in the process.
“Thank you so much, my Leo queen you are such an inspiration,” Colby messaged the songwriter. Lopez liked the Instagram messages, sharing her support for the RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant.
“Good job, baby,” Lopez wrote in her Instagram direct message. “Killed it.”
Because of her performance in the acting challenge, Kerri Colby landed in the “bottom two” for this episode. Colby lipsynced to “Play” by Lopez, with RuPaul allowing the drag performer to slay for another day.
‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ season 14 features several celebrity appearances
Lopez’ cameo in RuPaul’s Drag Race season 14 came as a video message for the queens. As a result, it’s unclear if Lopez will ever sit alongside RuPaul for this original drama series. During this “Super Tease” acting challenge episode, Loni Love offered advice to the contestants from behind the judge’s panel.
Lopez wouldn’t be the first (or last) celebrity with a video message for the RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni. For previous seasons Anne Hathaway and Scarlett Johansson appeared on the “she-mail” screen, offering encouraging words for “America’s Next Drag Superstar.”
