Jennifer Lopez Once Fired Her Manager for Telling Her She Needed to Lose Weight
Jennifer Lopez has stated on more than one occasion how comfortable and confident she is in her body. Through a careful diet and a dedicated workout regimen, she’s committed herself to leading a happy and healthy lifestyle. But even Lopez wasn’t always confident in her physique.
Having gone through weight issues in the past, she couldn’t help but take offense when a manager told her to lose a few pounds. After the exchange, her manager soon became her ex-manager.
Jennifer Lopez used to think she wasn’t thin enough
There was a point where the Selena star didn’t feel like her body was ideal. In fact, she once thought she even needed to lose weight herself.
“It’s hard to avoid comparing yourself to others,” Lopez told HELLO!. “I remember thinking I wasn’t thin enough because I had curves. But I’ve learned that being healthy and feeling great aren’t about having one specific body type; it’s a completely individual thing.”
She embraced her body by realizing her confidence came more from her attitude than her physique.
“Feeling beautiful is an attitude,” Lopez said. “And we should all look for the beautiful things we love about ourselves, regardless of how our bodies compare to someone else’s.”
Still, even Lopez finds her confidence wavering from time to time. To keep her spirits high, the Hustlers actor dances to combat negative feelings.
“When my confidence is lagging, I dance,” Lopez revealed. “There’s something about seeing what my body is capable of and feeling the endorphin rush that comes with a good dance session that really helps boost my mood. I still consider myself a dancer at heart, and I love it.”
Jennifer Lopez stopped working with her manager after he told her to lose weight
As confident as she is with her body, Lopez isn’t afraid to call someone out when others try to step on that confidence. Earlier in Lopez’s career, she revealed how even people on her own team told her to shed some pounds.
“They kept telling me to lose weight, and I was a dancer and I was athletic and even my manager at the time, who I no longer work with, was telling me: ‘You need to lose weight, You need to be thinner,’” The Independent reported Lopez said.
Jennifer Lopez all but confirmed that she fired the manager to her Monster in Law co-star Jane Fonda. Daily Mail noted that Fonda was interviewing Lopez when she asked the singer if there was truth to the claim.
“I was just so infuriated that somebody said you couldn’t have a little extra meat on you – because I was by no means fat,” Lopez confided. “That was so mean and closed-minded. I was like: ‘No, this is who I am and this is the type of woman that I grew up with and it was beautiful and there’s no reason to be anybody but myself.”
After the incident, Lopez doesn’t hear those comments anymore from anyone in her camp.
“No, I don’t get that now,” Lopez revealed. “I think people know better.”
Jennifer Lopez allegedly started bulking up when she was with Alex Rodriguez, and he loved it
Life and Style alleged that Lopez once began packing a bit more muscle while with her ex-husband Alex Rodriguez. At the time, the publication claimed a source reported Lopez switched up her workout routine for the process.
“Jennifer has always been extremely fit and athletic,” Life and Style claimed a source said. “Since she’s been with Alex, though, she’s been bulking up and he loves it.”
The source later confided how he couldn’t stop gushing about Lopez’s newer, more muscular physique.
“He was overheard complimenting her super strong and defined arms, saying how sexy they are,” the source added.
